This is a pretty good plane for the price. I’ve never gotten a plane that’s been usable right out of the box—even high-end models. The iron always needs to be sharpened prior to use, and often the sole needs to be lapped to make it truly flat. Both of these things were required for this plane, along with a few others. The iron arrived sharp, but not sharp enough. A few minutes on a stone fixed that. The bigger issue was that the sole of this plane was bowed. That required lapping on a diamond stone, which took considerably longer than the iron. At this price point, that seems reasonable to me. If I had gotten a brand name router plane with a sole as bowed as this one, I would have returned it. Then again, a brand name router plane would’ve cost a few times what this one did, at least. So for me, a little elbow grease is worth it.The most disappointing issue was that the screw holding one of the handles in place had a sharp burr on it, which cut my hand on the first use. I filed it off in seconds, but it did draw blood before I saw it was there. A definite lack of fit and finish. Speaking of which, the blade holder on this plane has very sharp corners and vertices where the sides and top meet. I definitely plan to file those down since they may be sharp enough to draw blood as well. All this being said, I give this product four stars, because at this price point, you can get a very capable router plane as long as you put in the effort required to set it up. If you’re looking for a router plane for occasional use as a hobbyist, this would be a good choice.

Overall, this is a nice little manual router. Well made if simple and unadorned. It is also comfortable to use. There is only one issue I have with it and that is, the blade was obviously sharpened free hand. It took quite a while to get the edge back after it was ground at an odd angle. No, I'm not one of those guys that thinks wood cutting blades should be delivered razor sharp but, I would like the angles to be at least close. This blade was pretty far to one side.

Every hand plane I have ever had needed some touch-up work initially. In general, the more you spend, the less initial work you can expect; and the cheapest ones always need a lot. At this price-point (at the time of this writing), I expected a better product than I received. It is designed and built well enough to be very useful; but not out-of-the-box, and not after just a quick touch-up.Because of the shape of the blade, and the way that router planes are used, the most important thing for the manufacturer to get right is the alignment of the blade. It has to be able to cut a clean, flat, square groove, that's no wider than the blade itself -- when pushing the plane straight forward. They got this right, which makes this plane worth the effort involved in making it useable.Unfortunately though, the manufacturer did not bother to do any of the basic finish work that is usually seen, even in cheaper planes. Expect to have to flatten the sole, re-grind and sharpen the blade, and remove a lot of burrs and sharp edges.

I was not expecting a lot from this when I ordered it, as I planned to mount it to a larger piece of wood. However, it would not even work well for that. The blade was not consistent in width and the grind was awful.

This was exactly what I was looking for in the price range. It’s basic but effective. It adjusts well (no gauge on the item so make sure to have a measuring device that works), it locks well (simple wing nut) and the blade is sharp and works well out of the package

This is relatively inexpensive but not a very precise tool as it comes in. Yet it has potential to become a great little tool if you are willing to do a little work on it. I'll be making the base flat and sharpening the blade on mine and it will become a useful tool.

Jeonz Router Plane Handheld Woodworking ToolI suppose the first thing I should tell you is that I’ve been a hobbyist woodworker for many years. And, not to brag, but I know router planes and I know them pretty darn well, from the cheapest to the highest quality ones. This one definitely falls among the cheapest ones, and in my opinion you should definitely look elsewhere. Allow me tell you why. From the moment I opened the little box, it was as if a voice from inside the box was screaming cheap! Cheap! CHEAP! If you look at my pics closely, you’ll see that both handles are loose—extremely loose to the point of almost falling off. What you can’t see is that the blade assembly was also very loose. What you also probably can’t see is that the blade is dull. So you could NOT use this tool out of the box, b/c it’d need sharpening first. And how many people buying this low-priced router would know how to sharpen a router blade? Can’t say for sure but I suspect not very many, b/c most of the buyers would likely be first-time buyers and users of router planes. Now most of these things I’ve mentioned so far are not necessarily deal breakers. After all, you can easily tighten the knobs, tighten the blade assembly, and you could sharpen the blade (if you knew how of course). But all these things DO speak to quality control, as well as the pride (or lack thereof) of the maker. And knowing what I know about tool manufacturing, I would be very reluctant to buy from this company again just based on how the tool was presented.Oh yeah, forgot to mention that no instructions of any kind were included, not even a little sheet just talking about how to care for the tool. Nothing. But if I could overlook all the above—which I personally can’t—what would be the deal killers of this tool? Well, it doesn’t work well, at all. And for one big reason: the blade assembly never completely tightens up, so the blade is always moving or jerking around. That’s disastrous for routing. Did you see in the pics the little wing nut bolt in the back of the tool? That’s the only mechanism to securely and tightly hold that blade in position. And it’s woefully lacking. It just CAN’T hold it securely b/c it’s not capable of doing so. The knurled knob at the top of the blade isn’t for holding; it’s only for adjusting the blade up and down.So even though this router plane is made of solid stainless steel—which isn’t a bad way to go—the tool will never work properly b/c of that insecure blade assembly. So please keep looking. There are router planes much larger than this one, and there are router planes much smaller than this one (and sizes in between) that work very securely and efficiently. There are also many ways to hand craft router planes that work very well. But if you want a good manufactured one that won’t break the bank, keep looking here on Amazon. There are many other choices.
