My Hidizs used to be work well, but now it just plays loud static. It almost destroyed my headphone. I hope it didn't damage my drivers.

despite the product name having "generic" in the title this DAC is anything but! I am super pleased with the sound quality as it provides a very clean sound and allows for different filter options. Although the filter options don't seem to make a HUGE difference, placebo is a crazy thing and it seems to work for me! This DAC/AMP functions very well and has driven every IEM I've thrown at it along with the Kiwi Ears Ellipse headphones like it was nothing! Some interesting things I want to point out that wasn't clear to me before I got this item:The two knobs are actually buttons for controlling volume up and volume down and they DO NOT twist. Also, when pressing the buttons at the same time to change the filters, the light will flash the corresponding color for the filter that is selected and then revert back to its solid color depending on what audio quality your music file is.SECONDLY, this dac/amp does NOT have independent volume control so when you're adjusting the volume, it is the same as pressing the volume buttons on the side of your phone. Not really a con at all but just so you know what to expect I wanted to mention that. This device DOES support in-line microphones as well and although I have no evidence of sound quality, I haven't had anyone complain about my voice quality so take that as you will. The other reviewers are right, this thing does draw a decent amount of heat and with that, does a pretty good job at absorbing your phone's battery life too so I would advise making sure you have a good charge before doing anything all day with this device. The size is perfect for a portable DAC and the connectivity is pretty darn good- in fact I think it included one of the most "secure" usb-c plugs i've ever used, the thing seriously grips and so i don't have to worry about accidental disconnects.Overall this DAC/AMP is pretty darn good and I mostly just rated based off the sound quality, clarity, and how much I personally enjoyed the device. I think this is definitely more along the lines of a pricey option but if you have the money to spend then I think you'll be very happy with this device's clarity :))

The audio was great at first. After having it on for about an hour it started making thumping sounds. After maybe 15 minutes of that, the gain dropped to an almost inaudible level. For portable use with high impedance headphones, this may be OK. Once it gets warm, it degrades quickly.edit: The gain drop seems to be a thermal protection feature. I think this DAC would be great for niche cases requiring the ability to drive esoteric in-ear devices, but for general purpose on-ear headphones it doesn't really shine. The case is just too small to dissipate enough heat to keep it running.
