No more green water! I had an idea of what needed to be done but, it would be helpful to have instructions to make sure I had it installed properly. Thankfully I had it right, but wasn't sure for several days until I knew the water wasn't going to grow algae blooms.

This in-line uv light works amazingly to control algea in the tank. The way it's designed allows for the light itself to be hidden so it doesn't hurt your fish. It comes with all the hardware you may need to instal, other than fittings. It's a lot easier to install if you have a canister filter, but mine actually fit on the intake for my traditional tank filter. It's been going nonstop for months now without any issues. I almost never have to scrub algea off the glass now and it's greatly reduced the spread of algea

Pump is not included, this is just for the uv light rod.

Amazon Vine sent me this UV tank sterilizer light which I powered by a pump and has made a massive positive difference in my outdoor 350 gallon pond with multiple fish and plants. The pump was gentle enough to not disturb the fish or plants, but was definitely powerful enough to remove the unsightly string algae which was chronic and problematic-- and was clogging my pond pump. This UV sterilizer made a big difference, and I run it at least 12 hours a day. It is been functioning for a number of months now and the like does not show any signs of dimming or water intrusion. Very effective for outdoor usage.

So I got this light for my cold plunge; not an aquarium. The UV light I had was one that was supposed to connect up to the water pump but I couldn't get it to stop leaking so I ordered this one.I already had an aquarium pump in the tank to circulate around any sediment and it was suction cupped to the side of the tank so all I did was suction cup this to the side of the tank in front of it and voila'... water circulation through the filter.I never really noticed much of a difference after installing it; it wasn't like some night and day difference from it.I don't know really know what to say... does it work? Maybe... couldn't it do nothing? Maybe....

SEE UPDATE BELOW! ...While this unit is well made and does what it advertises, this unit as well as others sold on Amazon should not be used if WITHOUT this modification for ÏN TANK"use as they are lacking what I believe to be an 2 essential pieces for this unit to operate in tank without killing small fish the size of neon tetra's, guppies and danio's. 2 simple plastic filter cap strainer at each end that prevents the fish from swimming into the UV column which will surely "fry" the fish upon entry. See my photo for how I rigged up my own strainers attached with a small dab of aquarium silicone to protect my fish from meeting this premature death. Shame on the manufacturer for not realizing the safety hazard this poses to the wildlife as it is currently being shipped without such safety devices!I am very IMPRESSED with this manufacturers dedication, after being contacted from the manufacturer recognizing this oversight and their commitment to rectifying the problem with filtering modifications similar to created which fixed the issue, on future product. I hope to see their new fixes implemented real soon

Update: I had a problem with this product in the timer...it would work and shut off fine, but didn't come back on in the 24 hours, just had a blinking light. I reached out to the company, and they made it right by sending me a replacement right away. I love it now, works great and wanted to update my review expressing the great customer service I was given and wouldn't hesitate to buy again from them.I gave this Sainsmart Xpertmatic UV Sterilizer 3 stars because of complicated application and misleading pictures presented before ordering. The pictures presented water flowing in and out and do not mention the need for a pump. I thought it must be a fan or something self contained, and would be great for my aquarium. After ordering I tried to contact the manufacturer twice to verify, and no response on trying to clarify how to use this, and if I had to buy their pump only so it fit properly. Apparently you can just use as a stand alone in the tank.It arrived today, and packed well and the UV light well protected. It came with an instruction book which was a big help. They recommend using a pump with the light and show a few different methods, none of which I could really use, so just figured it out. It also stated you could use as a stand alone. They did supply 2 different attachments to help fit current fitting. That did help me attach to my fluval hose output. My tank is a 36 gallon bow front and run 2 fluval canisters, one on each side. One cannister output has a spray bar, and the second one I installed the UV sterilizer. As you can see in pictures 2 & 3, I just secured the output from the top, secured it tight with a zip tie, and put it in the corner of the tank. The flow is the flowrate from the canister filter, and unfortunately I cannot direct it , so just blows straight down. That is fine, as actually I have circulation now from top and bottom, instead of both on top. I programmed it for 4 hours a day, since it is a 36 gallon, not 40, and I don't have a huge algae problem to begin with, but was starting to get black beard from poor circulation and more green because of the full spectrum light. Hopefully this will help both problems.I just started it today, but now that it is installed and works, I really like it.If you have a little ingenuity you can make it work with what ever kind of filter you are running, or they say no filter, just leave in the tank.UPDATE: Manufacturer did reply and said can be used without a pump. Not sure how water would circulate through it enough to work effectively, but thinking to have the water flow through it is a better choice. Most of the instructions do show how to hook it to a pump to push the water through.
