Salinity Test Strips, 0-1000 ppm

For Chloride Based Salt Solutions

The salinity test strips are used to measure the presence of the chloride ion (Cl-1) in chloride based salt solutions. Chloride salts include sodium chloride, potassium chloride, calcium chloride and ammonium chloride. Range of 0-1,000 ppm Cl. This strip can be used to educate students on the difference between “fresh” and “salt” water. It can also be useful in explaining the concepts of freezing point depression and boiling point elevation.

  • Used to measure the presence of the chloride ion (Cl-1) in chloride based salt solutions, such as sodium chloride, potassium chloride, calcium chloride or ammonium chloride.
  • Color chart blocks at 0, 500, 1000 ppm Cl
  • Comes in a moisture wicking vial with built in desiccant and a flip-top lid
  • Vial of 50 test strips with instructions and color chart printed on the bottle

In applications where the salt content is high (above the 1000 ppm that the strip is designed to test) the sample will require dilution with deionized or distilled water before running the test. In these cases, the test result will need to be corrected by using a dilution factor to arrive at the final result.

Instructions:

  1. Dip the strip into water for 1 second.
  2. Wait 10 seconds, then compare the test strip to the color chart. *Important! Do not touch the test pad with your fingers.

NOTE: This test only measures chloride based salts, such as sodium chloride, potassium chloride, calcium chloride or ammonium chloride. This cannot be used to test non-chloride based salts.

I was worried by the reviews, but this works for my purposes. I tested both distilled water and solution of roughly 1000ppm table salt and the colors indicated as expected.

This product is a complete scam. I tested it with distilled water, tap water and sea water and none of the strips changed color. The original manufacturer label was covered by another sticker that obscured the instructions and expiration date. The product was not past the expiration date but still did nothing to detect salt water.

works great, readings are: 0, 500, 1000; you can guess other concentrations (in-between) by the color of reaction

No instructions on deciphering ratings. Hard to distinguish color changes on test strips. No standard test strips to determine accuracy. Would not purchase again.

Don’t know how accurate they but they are very easy to use

Amazon shows this as frequently purchased with Hotsprings Freshwater Test Strips and Spa Salt. However, this Does NOT measure the correct salt range for Hotsprings Spas! It only tests to 1000 ppm and you need 2500 ppm.I wish I hadn’t trusted the advertising. After opening the tube and testing the water, I realized the problem. Total waste of $20 and I’m irritated with Amazon and the seller. If these are truly frequently purchased together then Amazon or the seller is ripping people off.Maybe this is a great product for another use. But I wouldn’t know, as there’s so little information provided by the seller.

I have a salt water hot tub and never really knew the salt content except when the clorine generator indicated that I was close?? I finally got my salt content right and the generator runs a blue light all the time. (blue indicates it is operating right and producing clorine)

I compared these strips to another brand I had previously used and found accurate and these are accurate as well.
