This is a convenient USB-A to SATA adapter with power adapter that connects on the back. You get a firm connection to your 2.5" or 3.5" drive across power and data, and can work with hard drives or SSDs without opening your PC.I use these a fair bit to back up computers that I'm rebuilding with new drives, so it's good to have a spare or two. At the current $14 price it's a great value.

This cable gave me issues. It would work for a few hours, sometimes even a few days, but I kept getting I/O errors from drives plugged into it. I assumed it was a faulty drive, but after going through 3 drives, I finally tried a different cable, and each of those drives read properly. I tried this cable on multiple machines (and multiple USB ports), and same deal.Do not buy this product

Update: I was able to easily clone my old drive onto the new drive, but when I ejected it to make the transfer, the drive failed catastrophically (to the point that it couldn't even be reformatted to try again). It's possible that it was a failure on the part of the drive itself, but it's equally likely that this cable didn't make the connection as well as I thought it did. There's really no way to know for sure except to try it again with another new drive... but I don't want to run the risk of corrupting my data yet again. (Updating my review to 4 stars...If this was a complete hardware error with the drive, I'd still say this deserves 5 stars because it was very easy to use, but if it failed because of the connection, I'd give this 1 star--simplicity of use means nothing if the end product is unusable. Since I don't know which it was, I'm going to err on the side of hoping for the best and not dock my rating entirely, but I hope people read my disclaimer here and proceed with caution!)Luckily, I hadn't yet formatted the old drive, so I was able to use another method to clone it to a replacement new drive... but I'd advise testing the cloned drive and using it for a bit to make sure everything is working before you delete anything!Initial review:This made it so easy to plug my new hard drive into my computer and clone the old drive. Definitely worth getting, if you're looking to make the transition easy on yourself!

The listing of this product does not explicitly state it will not work with optical drives. Once you open up the package however, the small print of the instructions does say no optical drive (but by that time it's too late if that was the intended purpose!).For standard hard drives it works fine. Just be sure to follow the correct sequence of hooking up the device (to the hard drive first, then power, then USB to the PC).Works fine in linux, not sure about windows.

This adapter works as advertised and is a pretty typical USB SATA adapter in terms of durability, read/writespeeds, quality of materials, etc. It instantly detected my HD and didn't require drivers and equally worked well on both Windows 10 and Linux and I imagine other OS'es as well. I've owned several of these over the years (I usually lose them, not because they stop working) and you can rest assured despite the price range they are more or less identical to more expensive adapters, so do yourself (and your wallet) a favor and buy this because it is exactly the same as far as I can tell..

I ordered a 2 pack of SATA to USB 3.0 Adapters and only received 1. The one I received is easy to use and it works great. I wanted these to connect to an external drive and this does fill the bill! I am happy with the adapter, I'm just unhappy I only got one.

Got this to connect an external drive to my PC. It is very easy to install and uninstall. The cables and plugs are durable and light weight, making them optimal for portability and storage. The cables are a decent length, but may require an extension cord based on where you put them. My only complaint is that I ordered a set of 2 but only got 1 in the package.
