As an important component of modern clutch systems, the release system, the connection between pedal and clutch, has a decisive influence on the driving experience. To ensure that the clutch is easy to operate and that the power flow can be safely metered, all components of the release system must work perfectly together. The clutch slave cylinder is the final component and positioned at the end of the hydraulic clutch system. In a semi-hydraulic version, it is always located outside the gearbox bell housing and serves to actuate the release bearing via a release fork. In fully hydraulic conversions, the function of the release mechanism on the transmission side is taken over by a concentric slave cylinder. ​​​​​​​The advantage of this over conventional release systems is that fewer components are needed, as release bearings and concentric slave cylinders are no longer required. Replaced the original slave cylinder in a 1996 ford escort after finding mild leaking at 147,000 miles. This Luk slave cylinder fit well and had no leaks after installing but had massive leaking after 2 weeks requiring refilling clutch resevoir and then again every 2 weeks since. Replacing it now with another brand slightly more expensive with a recognizable brand. Glad they are easily removed and installed.

Easy to install and works just fine for my nice Ford Escort LX 1992 ;-). Important note for self-installers: to remove air from hydraulic clutch system, put car uphill (front side of car should be above than rear). Connect pipe to the clutch cylinder and put another end to bottle with brake fluid. Make sure brake fluid level is enough in brake tank (both brakes and clutch use same tank). Open union and press clutch pedal several times, until air will be removed. Do not forget to check brake fluid level periodically. Close union, put cover there and be happy :-)
