Very functional. I have about a dozen electric guitars, and they all have either these or the Fender imitation. The part that attaches to the strap is, however, the smoothest, as it seems to fit the Fender deluxe buttons as well.

I'm a professional guitar player, and all of my gear was recently stolen including my straps for my ES335 and Les Paul. I had Schaller locks on both of them and they were great for the last 20 years. I bought these expecting the same quality and had a rude awakening. The ones I just purchased are a pain to use, you actually have to move them around to get them to lock. The release isn't smooth at all and drags when you try to take them off. I used them for 2 gigs hoping they would loosen up, but the last straw was when the lock on the neck disconnected when I was repositioning my 335. The seller wants to replace them...Not in this lifetime. Grovers on the way, and I guess along with my $5000 worth of stolen equipment on July 4th I can write off another $45 om July 27th. Do yourself a favor and buy something else. I'd give a zero if it was possible.

Costs more than a Fender version but has a longer threaded shaft that will work on thicker straps the Fender model won't. Keeps your strap on despite your best efforts and can be quickly removed for use on other guitars. I like it a lot but it is a bit pricey.

Beautifully crafted and well made and does the job. FYI, the screws diameter are larger than typical strap buttons.
