As a happy owner of two Schatten pickups, when I needed a third I was excited to see new improvements including the internal preamp and the new way of mounting (inside the harp) as opposed to a clamp/bracket mounted on to the soundboard holes. The pickup installation took under 5 minutes- and is not visible (so happy as I have a gold LH 17- does not ruin the beautiful aesthetic) but when I plugged it in and connected to the amp, I was shocked at how the volume was boosted by the preamp, and by the pure and natural sound of the harp. I am beyond pleased with this product.

I had the old version of this pickup in my concert pedal harp and it was pretty damn good. Very easy to install, sounded consistently great on recordings and live in lots of different settings for a good five years. Then I loaned my harp to someone and she broke it. I thought five years of good use is not bad and bought a new one.Well, the new one is a POS. The pickup is delicate, hard to place and doesn’t make great contact to the soundboard without being glued in. There is no jack installation anymore so you have to plug it into the battery pack inside the harp, which does not stay secure. The wires are thin and crappy. The battery contact thing is the lowest quality—it broke and I had to replace it and these tiny wires were difficult to splice and tape. Sound became worse, feedback problems were TERRIBLE. This thing just broke and gave me issues every way possible. I ended up with a jerry-rigged nightmare. So it’s à la poubelle with this thing and I’m upgrading to Dusty Strings P30. Tired of effing around. I need something reliable.Honestly if you don’t want to spend a lot, I’d just go with the Fishman SBT-HP plus a decent pre-amp. The Schatten is an in-between option that isn’t made well anymore. Super frustrating.

None of the holes in the entire unit were drilled straight so everything was out of alignment. It took considerable modification to correct things to mount properly. If this had gone to an end user without skills, it would have been worthless.

Absolutely the best way to mic the harp!! I have tried multiple pick ups, and external mic placements, but this gives clearer, truer sound than ANYTHING else I've tried. It's easy to "install" and I creatively used some sticky backed Velcro on the inside of the body to secure the transducer, so no holes or external clamps required. I also purchased an adapter from Amazon so I can plug in directly to the mic cable.

This pickup delivers a clear and strong signal to your speaker. The built in pre-amp makes all the difference. The pickup attaches to the back of the soundboard via the supplied putty and can be removed easily. I have used it on my concert grand, semi-grand and smaller harps. All have worked well. You don't have to drill any holes. NOTE: I don't fiddle with all the little devices to run the wires along the side of the soundboard. Your best bet is to simple pull the battery pack through the sound hole so that all the wires are away from the soundboard. I wrap the extra wire around and attach the battery pack to the back of the harp with a discrete rubber band. You don't want those wires touching the soundboard and creating a buzz situation.

great item/ sounds better than all the others ive rigged up thru the years- was pretty easy to install and beautiful accoustic sound, ive moved around the 36 string i installed it on alot and its kept its place and sound- i would recommend this pick-up- you wont have a volume control like most bilt in pre amps but i use an effects machine anyway so its not an issue and a p.a. will have controls also so it is more convienet just to plug in/im considering buying another one for a south american harp i have that has incredible tone (wish i was a better so am harpist) but for now i can use the pick up interchangably.

Once the mike is inside the pedal harp, it works pretty darned good. However, the instructions for installation are very lacking, and in reality the instrument itself is a bit delicate. The wires are thin and can easily be broken in the process.I used the mastic that came with it, but I also ended up using some black duct tape to further secure it and the wires. There's no reason not to buy the mike, just be prepred for a bit of a challenge when you're installing it.

I put this into a Thormahlen Swan 36 string Celtic harp and it sounds fantastic!!! Installation is very easy, takes less than 5 minutes. The sound is much better and much more present that either the Barcus-Berry planar wave pickup which had previously been in this harp (and died, thus this purchase), or a Fischer pickup with pre-amp that I had in a different instrument. I've used it in a variety of sound systems, and the harp sounded rich and full in all situations. I liked this pick-up so much I bought another one for the harp which had the Fischer built in. The battery life is great, I've used it on several gigs and have not yet had to replace the battery. Addendum: I also bought one of these to put in a Heartland Carbon Fibre Infinity which has traveled the world with me. Could not more highly recommend!!!
