Instructions aren't that clear but can be followed with common sense. Sounds great and good enough build with the suggested sanding down to perfect the box. My son loves his, thank you. Plenty of youtube tutorials and options to pick out the drum beats and breaks on your favourite songs and drum along.

It's a toy. My kid (7 years old) likes it. But not that great overall. Sound is ok. If you are going to get this, probably better off getting the Meinl kit, which is lower in price. Otherwise, I think better off paying some more to upgrade to a higher one like the Sela kit.

Eh! It went together easy enough but I'm not impressed with the sound.

This is so far just reviewing the build process and the quality of the parts of this construction kit. The glue is still drying on the last parts as I am typing this, so I have no idea how it sounds yet. It's a kit from a German company so I was expecting a bit more in terms of precision of fit than I would have from a kit from any other country of origin. I have to say I am disappointed. They tried to do a precision tongue and groove cut but it failed as the quality of the plywood they used did not match the quality of the cutting pattern very well. The ply layers separated slightly in the cut area and whence the pieces did fit together very well, creating ugly gaps on the outside corners. I believe it will still work, but it won't look good and there's not much you could do about. I honestly wish they had used a more simple tongue and groove pattern as they show on youtube [...] for the larger Cajon kit. That would have been a lot more reproducible even with cheap wood.I have installed a larger snare that I cut from an old snare belt coming from a drum as some have said they'd wish they delivered 2 snares as with the larger kit as the snare sound seemed subdued. We'll see how this will work.I briefly played the Cajon before applying Tung oil as a finish. It sounded pretty nice actually. Not so much after applying 3 thin coats of Tung oil to seal the surface. Very flat and not much resonance anymore. I tried to replace the wider snare I used with the original one to see if it made any difference. Not that I could tell. The snare rattles regardless of where you hit the front. I prefer it to be very silent for the low tones but i could not control the activation. Honestly, I think I could make a plastic bucket sound more exciting than this box. It's still nice as a stool, so not all is lost, I guess.

Good quality. Good price. This kit makes a decent cajon at a low price. The wood pieces were precision cut, instructions easy to follow and the final product looks/sounds good. Great for a first cajon to learn on and have a vested interest in the instrument during the process. [note: The 'CBA1S (Medium)' is obviously smaller than the 'CBA2S (Large)', but it also has only ONE snare assembly (not 2, like the Large). I was disappointed to find that to be the case upon arrival- was expecting 2 snares for this model as well- no mention was made about the difference between the two models outside of the size difference.]
