Drive crashed suddenly after short warranty ended. Drive shows as good in S.M.A.R.T. Data from previous week was lost. Do not buy renewed drives for important work. Data loss risk is too high.

It's been only a month since I got this drive for my Synology DS212 NAS. So far, it has performed fine. I hope to say the same after a year. In the past, I have had mixed results with Seagate drives. A couple of them only lasted just over a year. So the warranty had just expired :-(

If possible, make sure to buy from a "fulfilled by amazon" source. The drives I ordered were probably fine, except that the manufacturers warranty expired 5 months after the purchase date. Seller "TWONNY" then charged me a "restock fee" for trying to offload their old drives onto me. They then had the audacity to say "there is a five year seller's warranty." Like they are even going to exist as the same seller in five years 🤣 If you want to make sure you get the manufacturer's warranty, don't buy drives here, go elsewhere.

These drives (I bought 2) were sold as NEW, with 5 year warranty. As I typically do, I checked Seagate Warranty as soon as I got these drives...Seagate says these drives are NOT under warranty, and says that you must deal with the seller who is NOT the manufacturer but a "renewer" of drives for any warranty offered by them.Seagate says these are DATA CENTER RETURNS and were sold in quantity to a data center. If you buy these drives and one or more fail, The best you'll get is another data center swap-out drive if your time for a full refund has expired which is about 30 days.I was lucky; The drives failed within 10 hours of spin-up with S.M.A.R.T. error 187 which is a FATAL DRIVE error so I was able to return for a full refund,,, but you can't return to AMAZON,,, no,,, they make you deal with Maestro who has to authorize the return and refund or replacement...Notice the picture.... 1 error is fatal and these drives, in less than 10 hours of use have over 40 logged, uncorrectable errors. The following information comes from, Seagate, WesternDigital, ArgusMonitor, Asustor, Google, and almost every DataCenter you research....S.M.A.R.T. Number 187 reports the number of reads that could not be corrected using hardware ECC. Drives with 0 uncorrectable errors hardly ever fail. This error code is one of the SMART stats we use to determine hard drive failure;Every Data Center has a SMART-187 policy that reads: once SMART 187 goes above 0, we schedule the drive for immediate replacement because its total failure in imminent.

Got the drive all setup and started moving all my data over. Didn't notice the sound originally since the tower I'm replacing has very loud fans

The drive was Fedexed in in less than three days from Connecticut USA. I live in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, so that's fast, but so is the drive. Connected on USB 3 the speed is 245MB per second. The only thing is that it formats to 10.9 TB in Windows 10. Still, it is reasonably priced when you consider the cost per TB.

Purchased 3x 12 TB drives from serverpartdeals and warranties good through May 2024 on Seagate website. All tested good (StableBit Disk scanner) and populated easily in Drivepool. Massive size and I'll be switching out more over the next few months.
