Drive doesn't spin up. Looks like others have had the same issue. Very disappointed in WD. Amazon must know these are junk as they only offer a refund, no replacement.

I added two of these to expand my NAS RAID recently afte the RED PROS i bought were not recognised by the NAS. Worked like a dream as soon as I inserted them.

Item arrived defective (drive spin but communication interface is dead) and drive won't work neither in 2 different NAS or Windows PC. I personally own 10 of these drives and they work perfectly well...This is the first time a WD Gold fails on me, and first time it is DOA ... Although this can happen, i would have like a fast refund to buy a replacement, usually a refund is issued as soon as the packagenis dropped. But now it seems Amazon has changed it's rules and put a 16+7 work days before issuing a refund, which is 1 month ! I think this is abusive policy for a DOA item. But my concern is that this item has a lower price for 14TB than the actual 12 i wanted to match, and there were only 2 "left in stock" so i think these units, although sold as new, were previously returned as defective, although is impossible to proove due to defective communication interface, it is impossible tonread drive, SMART information.

You could probably get a better deal on an ultrastar drive. The gold drives are just rebranded ultrastar drives. It's loud but I love it. I miss that sound from the computer. For some reason, mine got lost in the mail and they had to send me another.

I've had a WD 2Tb Gold drive for about 7 years and it has been flawless. Because it's now full, I wanted to replace it with a larger HDD with the same reliability. Bought this WD Gold 8tb HDD with high expectations. How disappointing that it was dead as a doornail right out of the box. I tested every way I know how (different SATA cable, different port, external reader, internal install) but it wasn't even recognized, and as best I could feel or hear, never even spun up.Might be time to switch to an enterprise grade SSD?

Switched from "Seagate FireCuda Solid State Hybrid Drive Performance SSHD" to this.It is extremely fast even when dealing with very large amount of small files, the inbuilt 512MB cache is making a big difference.

My 4TB WD hard drive was almost full (I take a lot of photos) and I had already tried a 12 TB Seagate drive that was DOA, so I decided to try a 8TB WD drive since my 4TB drive has been fine for several years. It initially was OK and I was able to copy the 4TB drive to it using a common utility (It's not my first rodeo). However, after less than two months I noticed it was taking a while to open files. I ran the CHKDSK utility and it found some bad sectors. I started using it again but after about a week it started acting flaky again. I removed the drive from my main computer and plugged it into one of my backups and ran CHKDSK again. This time there were multiple pages of errors. When it finished I tried to access the drive and the system told me it wasn't accessible. I ran CHKDSK again and it found MORE ERRORS but I ran into the same issue of it not being accessible, so I ran it again. This time it gave me the errors in the attached picture in an endless loop. I went to try to print it but it was over 300 pages. The good news is that I called Amazon (Since I had heard that dealing with WD is a nightmare) and they gave me a one-time exception refund but with a $48 restocking fee. I very nicely asked if there was a way to not pay that and he then got approval for a credit that could be used for a replacement drive. I am assuming this was a one-time issue so I reordered the same drive. I will update here if it also goes bad!
