About this item

  • Botanical Description: Thymus vulgaris, commonly known as thyme, is a perennial herb from the mint family, Lamiaceae. It features small, fragrant leaves and tiny, tubular flowers that range from white to pink.
  • Culinary Uses: Thyme is widely used in culinary applications for its aromatic flavor, which complements a variety of dishes including meats, soups, and vegetables. It's a key ingredient in traditional herb blends like bouquet garni.
  • Cultural Significance: Thyme has been valued for centuries not just for its flavor but also for its symbolic meanings. In ancient Greece, it was associated with courage, and in medieval times, it was given as a token of affection or bravery.
  • Growth and Habitat: Thyme thrives in sunny, well-drained conditions and is native to the Mediterranean region. It's a hardy plant that can also grow in rocky, poor soils, making it a popular choice for garden landscapes and even as ground cover.
  • Quality: All Thyme seeds packaged by Seed Needs are intended for the current and the following growing seasons. All seeds are stored in a temperature controlled facility that is free of significant amounts of moisture.
  • Quantity: Seed Needs offers generous quantities. You can share with friends and family, or you can save the extra seeds until the following season, if properly stored.

  • Promise: Seed Needs will never knowingly supply GMO based seed products. The vast majority of our seeds are open pollinated & heirloom, with the exception of a few hybrids.

I planted these thyme seeds on a Wed night and they germinated by Friday morning. This is a few days later. The marjoram that I planted did not germinate well. I have 1 about to sprout after about 10 days. I guess they must require different needs. Anyway. Thyme was on seed mat and grow light on for about 16 hours during the day and then off all at night and has done wonderful.

My only worry buying seeds is whether or not they will sprout. I followed directions on the packet, and these sprouted right on time. It also appears that all, or almost all of the seeds I planted came up.

This product was very difficult to grow, It germinated a total of five seeds but three died right after. I'm not sure if it was supposed to be placed in a certain type of soil but i did follow the instructions on the packet.
