this mattock is a perfect primary garden tool & walkingstick. great for weeding, planting plugs, removing small trees & shrubs, hoeing, tilling or aerating an area for planting, spreading, sculpting, digging & scratching.i use mine to remove invasive plants & replace them with native seedlings. it makes a fine walkingstick in the woodland, speeds everything up in the food plot & perfectly suits the all-purpose needs of the community garden.try hoedag long handled hoe for a lighter version of this tool. this tool is heavier than hoedag but has a much longer blade. i like this long handled mattock for digging the initial holes for seedling plugs followed up by planting the seedlings by hand. it speeds the process & indicates appropriate locations for seedlings allowing volunteers a chance to contribute.i would never joke about a mailorder mattock. as far as i have been able to determine, this & the hoedag are the only options for longhandled mattocks. this is the cheapest mailorder mattock on the market.

good quality, the steel the head is made from is high quality and will not misshapen. the handle is a strong sturdy lightweight wood. I purchased this for my 94 year old Mother, she said it was a little heavy, I thought it was too light, It works great, can hoe deep if you want, cuts nice, can be sharpened, and fits into tight areas.Perfect!

This hoe got a good workout the latter part of summer and early fall. My 5'2" daughter put it to work right away and says she really likes it. I've used it a few times and wish the handle was longer and I'm only 5'7". The weight is good and both edges have beneficial qualities. I may still buy something a bit wider later. The narrow blade came very sharp and only needed a touch up. The wider though, took about a half an hour of file work to get it working sharp. All in all, a good hoe to have for the garden.

Great value. I sanded the raw handle and stained it with Watco, finished with steel wool, and another coat. Strange, beautiful red wood. Long, light handle is almost like a whip. Not a heavy pick but great for roots and rooting out shrubs, Great price and a beautiful tool. No bending over. Terrific weeding hoe.
