0 star. They were all dry. Can’t use them and can’t return them.

If you follow the directions, they'll work well the first time. The second time, they may or may not work. By the third or fourth use, they've all been non-functional for me.

Each one comes individually wrapped which I appreciated to make sure they don't dry up. I opened the first one 6 months later and completely dry. A few attempts later on paper to see if the paper helped but nothing. I heard nothing when shaking it. The tip even got stuck to the cap. Has no ball inside when shaken. I could understand partially empty but completely empty on a 6 month shelf life is a bit not. Sharpies last longer.

Okay, so I've never used an oil based pen before. Be sure to read and follow the instructions so it will work. Shaking the capped pen a lot, then removing the cap and using something between your finger and the tip as you press down to let out the compressed air, and then use is a must. Otherwise you might be like me and want to simply throw it away as a lost cause. But once I figured it out, I've been using it on all kinds of plant labels (but really like it best on the metal labels and because it's a fine point so can fit more on the labels) in my home gardens and that of two professional gardens that I tend. Thus far they have been easy to use on the labels, easy to read, haven't faded and decent value. It's with all of this in mind that I can recommend this item.

So much fun and they work on many things. I have ordered different sizes and they all work well. When I am painting clear ornaments I can easily add snow falling, say Merry Christmas/write the name of the person I am giving it to. When you are water coloring and old rule was that you could not use white paint...well I have broken that rule by using a fine point white sharpie. JUST THE BEST.

I use these to draw thin white lines 4 in apart onto my picture window in the living room to prevent birds colliding with my window. The pen needs a little shaking and priming before it works, then it works well using a 2x4 plank as a ruler. The lines stay put through rain and weather but need to be redrawn after window washing. However, this has been an effective and cost effective way to protect birds from window collisions for me.

I don't limit this marker to paper. It works on plastic and any hard surface as well. Be sure to follow the instructions and put the point side down on a surface and repeatedly depress it until the white ink flows. I can tell you one use where it is most valuable: the some white letters on black keys on my computer keyboard wore aware from use. This marker works well to replace the white letters. All my best. I have used this brand and style of paint markers for many years, with great success and consistent experience and quality of ink/paint, as well as robustness of the applicator tip. I see many reviews here that claim the ink was dried up, or did not flow consistently, or various other purported defects. Those criticisms are unmistakeably from naive/new users who are unfamiliar with the conventional limitations of this product. Larger markers (with a larger applicator tip) of this brand and type are less susceptible to a fundamental characteristic of these paint markers: the flow can be interrupted from periods of disuse, any (perhaps unseen) contaminant/film on the surface to be painted, as well as the pressure of the user’s technique and the angle of attack. The finer/thinner the applicator tip, the greater the degree of these KNOWN limitations. Probably, anyone with experience in traditional India ink “dip-pens” or fountain pens is accustomed to the need to test-stroke a “nibbed” pen across a scrap piece of paper/surface in order to prime it. Also, the directions to initiate ink flow need to be repeated during the lifetime of the pen (that is, the directions may be misinterpreted to mean that the “setup” operation of pumping the tip is required only for the first use, but the fact is that I often repeat this exercise when starting each session). It’s a good product, but if you want the fine-line application that these provide, there are accommodations to be made to prime the product for each use.

I bought these pens to trace mask pattern pieces onto black fabric. It took a good 5 minutes of shaking to get the ink down. You can see the outline (under my orange template) but it is a pale gray. Was hoping for a thin crisp line such as the black Sharpie on the white fabric. I think I should have just laid a lighter fabric on top and cut through both. This will do the job, but the fabric absorbs the paint so not the best tool for this job. I will say, where the pen hit the plastic template, the white was clear and bright.

This review is for:Fine Point Paint Marker [Set of 3] Color: WhiteIf you are an artist, a visual journalist, someone who likes to write on photos or sign artworks, then you probably need these. I bought them based on Jane Davenport's wonderful book "Beautiful Faces", because she revealed it as a secret trick to open the eyes of your subject, regardless of medium. I'd also add they are perfectly wonderful for adding small stars to any dark barkground as well.Unlike regular Sharpies, these are paint-based, which means you have to shake them a bit, and the pen does write in a liquid medium. It is beautifully opaque, and mostly easy to control - mostly. You do want to test it on a scratch pad first and get the feel of the pen - it's easy to accidentally drip a huge blob on your work, and this is not as easy to clean up. Thus the removal of one star, because while I shall never live without these, it did cause me to ruin a calendar due to the overenthusiastic speed with which it tends to flow. They don't have the typical sharpie smell, and there isn't any bleedthrough that I've detected (which is also different from sharpies). It dries to a glossy and not a matte finish. It is the definitive tool for highlights of the smallish kind, and it also works wonderfully with watercolor and pastel.PROSExcellent highlightingNo bleedthroughFine, sharp point give you intricate precisionShiny, beautiful opaque finishCONSThey will run all over your project if you aren't careful
