I used this pad to stain the rough side of beveled siding. It worked great. There was no tearing of the pad as mentioned by other reviewers. I have rinsed it out and it still looks new. I have been using this brand for decades and I am very pleased with their product line.

Attach to a pole, and it's the easiest way to apply the yearly coat of Cabot's Australian Timber Oil to your decks! So much better than scooting on a cart or bending over with a brush! I just use one to do all my decks, and I have a lot. In between wrap with Saran Wrap, then when all the decks are done, just throw it away...no brushes, paint thinner, etc!

I have a large deck and thought this would considerably shorten my work time. However, I would most certainly not recommend the product for the following reasons:1. After only a couple minutes I started seeing sponge pieces appear in my wet stain on the deck boards. I thought it may have snagged on something. I then started hearing a metal scraping sound on my next pass. I turned it over and saw some of the hard plastic of the applicator poking through the sponge in the middle. The sponge quickly completely fell apart soon after. It may have just been defective.2. Even if it didn't fall apart, you would still need to sit down for a lengthy amount of time and use a regular paint brush on the sides of the wood boards as this pad won't get on the sides of the boards. The slats of my deck are pretty close together, but you could still see where this applicator left spots on the side unstained.I just threw this in the garbage and used a large paint brush. It lasted all of about 100 sq ft.

I was debating on getting a replacement pad for my wagner deck mate or trying this. I am so glad I tried this, It works so much better than the deckmate. Holds a lot of stain and lasts pretty well. Still in great shape after doing a old 18x10 deck. One word of caution. If you use it sideways for railings and under deck boards. Cover the ground. The sponge holds a lot of stain which is great when it goes down but sideways it makes a real mess. I did use it that way but it took awhile to get a technique to not have it drip all over.
