The original siding tool is expensive, so I thought to give this one a try as an alternative. They looked quite similar. Unfortunately, this is a classic example of you get what you pay for. While this tool looks similar, there are a number of important features that are subpar. The body of the tool and the adjustment pin are fine. The lever and the pad are fine too. And the spacers to accommodate different siding thicknesses were a thoughtful addition. What's not fine is the tongue that is supposed to slide under an already-installed plank. On the original tool, the tongue is tapered to a fine edge so it can slide into the often tight joints between planks. This tool has a dull tongue, so you would have to force it hard and potentially damage the siding while you're trying to jam it in the joint. Or you would have to use an additional tool to slightly open up the joint adding an unnecessary extra step.Another issue is that the four screws that attach the tongue to the body are not flush with the tongue. This means that every time you slide the tool in its place, it scratches the already installed plank. I tried to tighten them, but the countersink holes are too small to accommodate the head of the screws. During this process, I also discovered that the screws are soft and low quality. They strip if you just look at them wrong. Yes, I could get better screws, but I shouldn't have to do that.In summary, these might do it in a pinch, but they are not a replacement for the originals. They are like fake legos. They look similar in the pictures, but once you start working with them, you immediately notice the quality differences.

It’s just like the name brand. These hardie siding tools are perfect for trying to install by yourself. They make it easy to get the job done without damaging the siding and paint color.Very easy to use keeps your measurements exactly were you need without using a tape measure It has the three different size setting for thickness and it stays on the size you have it on without moving. It locks in good and functions as it’s supposed to. They saved me money with the good price and are light and about as durable as the ones I had before. They are exactly like my previous ones and are accurate.

I’m planning to replace the siding on my house with Hardie later this year, and I came across this tool. It’s very well made - constructed primarily from thick plastic, which should help prevent any scratches on pre-painted siding during use. The kit includes two different sets of spacers to accommodate thicker siding, and it offers plenty of height adjustments to fit various width of siding or reveal.I've only seen tools like this in YouTube videos so far, but I can’t wait to try it myself. I’m sure it will make installing siding in even rows with consistent reveal incredibly easy. Plus, the fact that it holds the material in place while you nail in a new sheet is a game-changer. Looking forward to using it for the first time!

Been meaning to check this type of tool out for sometime and never really understood the way in which they worked. These are pretty cool very grippy and easy to use. The amount of grip is actually a bit surprising and my idea about how these work was totally wrong!!This kit comes with plates that can be added to change the tools ability to grip and hold onto different thicknesses of cement board siding . Very nice feature! The reave is adjusted by moving another bolt at up the or down in 1/4" increments ( i think may have that spacing wrong.. ) The oijtcis it can be set up for many different specs for a project and quickly adapted to the next project with different specsall with the same body. This is convenient as in looking for these, i have noticed many that only do one thickness of baords etc.. which would mean having multiple sets if your in this line of work or making up your mind before purchasing the tools if you are a DIY user. I get alot of "extra" materials off of the plethora of building going on in my area. Contractors that have extra material or large amounts of scrap and no place to store or deal with it moving on to the next job often just want it gone. So overctime ive been building up a nice pile of cement boards that are great for finishing my smaller buildings and getting to see what i would like to Ultimately use for bigger buildings down the road. This tools is essential for large runs. and creates a much more even look really fast and easily even on small projects like a fog house or she shed! Pretty cool ! I really love that this is versatile and im getting to play with different reveals to find what i like best while finishing up some little project stuctures before making any bigger decisions for the larger ones! I truly impressed by the simplicity of this tool amd how well they work. I would imagine you can buy replacement bands for the gripping aspect as this part wears down over time. Since i jist started using this im not sure how long they last - it would have been cool to see extra bands included with the product- i mean the extra plates are only useful if the band survives to the next project. I truly hope bands are available sin e otherwise the entire premise of this verstile tool would be limited as parts alomg with tool need constant replacment! I do meed to explore how that all works I guess before i can truly rate overall usefullness. I giving this 4 stars for now- truly impreesive little gadgets! I will update after my search for parts very shortly.

These seem like a great tool, though I haven't gotten to my siding project yet. They come with plates that adjust for different thicknesses of siding plank, and holes that allow you to set different reveal lengths. The toggles that clamp the siding operate easily and have good sized knobs.
