It's basically a silicone gel pad that has been cut out in the shape of a rectangle, where the pad has a "sticky" nano-tape backing that allows you to stick the pad onto the shoulder of your shirt or jacket or your skin. It's pretty effective at absorbing the recoil from my shotgun and keeping bruising on my shoulder to a minimum. It comes in a pack of two. It can be easily cut to size if you are using it to replace a worn out pad insert in a standard recoil harness pad.

I wanted to try and M1A in .308 at the range. I put one of these in my shooting vest and it fit reasonably well. It definitely helps with the felt recoil but it is hard to say how much. There is a plastic sheet on the back side of this which exposes a slightly tacky adhesive. I didn't use this.
