Use with spray glass cleaner on bowling balls. Works great.

I maintain the bowling balls for my family so I have done a lot of sanding and adjusting surfaces over the last 15 years. The first thing I noticed about these pads are they are small. The main competitors for bowling pads are Siaair and Abralon. Those brands are both 6" diameter pads. These are 4.75". This makes them difficult to use with a 5" sanding block (basically a cup that holds the pad) and my ball spinner. The block allows for a much more consistent sanding. I couldn't use it with these pads. I also have a velcro glove that allowed me to hold the pad, there is just more room for error. The pads I received were marked 500-600, 800-1000, 1200-1500, 2000, 2500, 3000. This in itself is a little odd. Usually they are individual - a 500 pad, 600, 800, 1000, 1200, etc. There is a difference between an 800 grit and a 1000 grit so having a range leaves some guess work involved.I decided to redo one of my bowling balls. I started with the coarsest pad 500-600 grit. It did a nice job roughening the surface and put things in a good place to move on to the next pad. I followed this up with the 800-1000 pad. This seemed closer to the 800 than the 1000, still seemed like a pretty rough surface. I moved up to the 1200-1500. Once again probably closer to the lower number the higher. I finished with the 2500. This seemed to be pretty accurate. The new surface looked much like I was expecting. The pads themselves are pretty inexpensive but still effective so if you want to have something in your bag to allow for quick adjustments to the ball surface prior to beginning your league or for a tournament, it's not a bad way to go. Due to the size and the multiple grits listed on some of the pads, I wouldn't recommend using these at home to get to a specific surface. These will go in the bowling bag.

This is a really good starter set for sanding pads for bowling balls. I like that each pad is clearly labeled with which grit level they have. The set includes all the common surface 'smoothness' that bowling ball manufacturers use and a couple of extras.High end bowling balls are somewhat porous and can be difficult to clean. These work great for removing scuffs that won't easily wash out without changing the surface smoothness - you will need to know what the ball smoothness is to match the pad. Some balls have the reactive resin as an outer coating and I have not seen how thick that coating is.Some bowlers use these to adjust the 'grip' of the ball to match the lane. I personally will not be doing that since it can remove the print off the balls surface also. I believe the official rules are that you have to sand the entire ball for a uniform surface to be legal if you are changing the surface smoothness.
