Get more from your movies with 4K Ultra HD

Experience movies with four times the resolution of conventional Blu-ray (Full HD), with new 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray discs and 4K streaming services.

HDR10

An HDR10 signal contains up to 100x the brightness of a standard (SDR) signal, massively increasing peak brightness while retaining deep and highly-detailed blacks, for an entirely new viewing experience.

DOLBY VISION

Bring scenes to life with striking highlights, deeper darks, and vibrant colors. Dolby Vision is an HDR solution that creates an immersive, engaging cinematic experience in your home.

All the colors in nature

Support for the new BT.2020 color spaces means access to a much wider range of colors than conventional TV signals offer. This ultra-wide color space means content creators can deliver much more saturated and realistic color from deep aquatic blues to natural greens and vibrant reds.

Pros:Perfect 4K Disc PlaybackDolby AtmosDolby Vision and HDR103D SupportPlays DVD, BD, even CDs and SACDsCompatible with older displaysA better player may not be coming…Cons:Dated Interface/ MenusSubstandard Streaming PerformanceFirmware Update IssuesNo HDR10+I like streaming services and Plex for convenience but there is nothing more foolproof than a physical disc. Of course, physical disc PLAYERS are less foolproof than they used to be, with crowded app menus and conflicting feature sets. In truth, the market for physical disc players is apparently so small that there are very few players with the features I want: 4K blu-ray with Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and 3D Blu-Ray support. The several-years-old Sony X700 has all of these. There may be no other option on the market.I won’t pretend that Sony’s interface and underlying software are competitive with an Apple TV or Roku. Wifi speed is unreliable and streaming apps are more likely to buffer. I would continue to use a dedicated streaming box and leave this player offline. Also, while I could connect this player to my wifi, it failed multiple times to update its firmware, leaving me no option but to download a file on my PC and load it on the player with a USB stick. (Is it important to update the firmware? Unknown.)Beyond this, getting a 4k Dolby Vision signal to my 2017 OLED has always been tricky and this player is no exception. I believe the real problem to be the HDMI cables, not the players, so I strongly suggest purchasing a new HDMI cable that lists 8K and 48gbps among its specs. If you are seeing video dropouts, I suggest power cycling the player, going to the settings menu and switching resolution to 1080p before you begin troubleshooting— this will likely provide you with a stable image. If you happen to have an older TV, or a TV that does not support Dolby Vision (or HDR at all?), the player can still give you a nice image from 4k discs, “faking” HDR so that it plays on your screen. I honestly think 1080p blu-rays look better than fake HDR, though. Finally, there is an HDR standard called HDR10+, essentially Dolby Vision without the associated licensing costs. This player does not support this.If you’re looking for a 4K blu-ray player with all the features listed in the “pros” section at the top, and understand that you will still need a separate box for streaming services, I highly recommend the Sony X700. It’s a great player for spinning discs of all kinds.

I bought this as a refurbish unit so that I could play 4K and 3D DVDs. It replaced an older model Samsung unit that I had that could not play back 4K discs. Right out the box I was impressed and how easy the unit was to set up. The written and onscreen instructions were easy to follow. The unit works well with both my 4K and 3D discs. No complaints.

I just received a new HDMI (18gbps) and replace what I thought was a good high Speed HDMI - but I was wrong - the new cable made a great improvement. Before the YouTube app was buffering and the music would cut out for a second - then playing a standard DVD would freeze for second and skip forward and there was noticeable static audio and in black background. I was surprised in how the HDMI cable would cause and solve those issues. I thought it was the player and perhaps it was only 2.4G internet that caused the buffering. Now all apps and player work as expectedAbout the player - is GREAT even though it is a Re-new - it NOW works flawlessly (so far) and I would highly recommend the seller and there services. The UBP-X700 is outstanding player on all levels - recommend shopping for best price.

First I have to say that the product looks and performs as a new one. It talks perfectly with the smart TV I have. The additional HDMI audio only output is been useful in my case since I use an audio extractor to connect the audio to my stereo HiFi system. The image quality for the native 4K blu-ray movies is outstanding. One of the best investments I have done in a bluray player. It also does 4K up scaling. I read somewhere that this model is capable of reproduce 3D movies even if the TV is not, but unaffortunatelly that is not true.:-(

My return window closed feb 2020. It isn’t working and it’s 4/2020....I am not happy! I just bought it in November. It is not playing various applications, bought virtual content. I have completed the resets, proper troubleshoots multiple times over and even bought a 2nd one thinking it was a rare bad egg. I have a back history in tech and thus, know how to properly care for my products and not careless. I am disappointed.

It's excellent - the overall quality and design, user interface/menus, playback capabilities and the resulting picture quality. Wow.I wish the power plug didn't contain a power adapter, but that's a minor nit.

First, the renewed model is like new. I've had no issues whatsoever with it and it has what it advertises.Second, I don't care about the smart features on this box and can't say if they work or not because I'm not going to use them. Preferably I would be able to find a player without these features but that doesn't seem possible in this day and age. I just want to put a disc in and have the disc play. And the box does that, I think it only takes you to the home menu if you power it on without a disc. Hopefully I never need to see it again after my initial setup of the device.Third, the picture is great. The 4K upscaling is pretty good for regular blu rays. Is it going to breathe new life into your DVDs? No. DVDs don't look terrible but there is no magic to suddenly make DVDs look HD here. Haven't experienced any hang ups, freezing, stuttering, etc. I'm not a sound guy and just output audio and video with the same HDMI cable and it's fine. It passes through my TV to my soundbar and I haven't noticed any sound displacement or whatever.Fourth, the remote is ok. I don't know what half the buttons do and I don't care. It has directional buttons, play/pause, a menu button, and a button to change subtitle settings and that's all I need. From my perspective, it could be much more simple and better laid out but it does what I need it to. I'll get used to the weird layout.
