Unlike most of the reviews as I write this, I’m actually using the jar for sourdough, and it’s pretty perfect. The glass is quite strong, I really like the shape, and there are so many little niceties—the band that marks the starter level is marked with both day and time. I didn’t know I needed that until I saw it. The little muslin shower cap thingy is perfect—I was never happy about trying to partly cover a jar. And while the orange is a bit unfortunate, I love that spatula so much that I just bought two more.To address a couple of reviews I think are questionable, I would not recommend using it for canning. The glass is sturdy, but I don’t know that it’s boiling sturdy. There are lots of better and cheaper options. And no, it’s not airtight. It shouldn’t be. It’s not a general purpose storage jar. Sourdough is alive. Even in the fridge it grows, and when you’re feeding it, it grows a a lot. An air tight jar would be dangerous. Exploding starter anyone? I’ll pass.

Definitely not air tight. Set to return them but missed the window to do so.

These jars feel like quality glass. I even dropped one on the floor and it didn't even crack (lucky). The size is great, I use them for canning.

I use these jars for everything! For drinking glasses, for canning, for prepping and storing my salads for the week, and to store dressings and leftovers. They fit great in the fridge.
