I keep two sourdough starters (rye and whole wheat) in the fridge, and make some kind of sourdough bread or baked good weekly. These starters are over 10 years old, and the mother starter was from 25 years ago. I take the starters out the night before, feed them and leave them at room temp to give them a chance to wake up and activated for use the following morning. Typically these starters don’t double in volume, but can be used successfully once they reach about 1 1/3 times starting volume.I fed both, placed one on the warmer at the default 80 degrees, and the other next to it at room temp. The photo shows the starters after 8 hrs, with the rubber band being the volume right after being fed. They seemed to be equally activated. It was a warm day, about 75 degrees room temp, so the effect of the warmer plate may be greater when it’s cooler. I did change places, put the room temp jar on the warmer, and left for a few more hours, and it did seem to help activate it more quickly.I did not get the add on glass dome, as my glass jars have glass lids which essentially do the same thing. The warmer may also be useful as a dough proofer but have not tried that yet.Overall, I like the concept and during cooler times of the year this could be a useful product for jump starting the sourdough starter activation. It does have options to set temp and warming time, which are useful features.

it does not heat up to stated temperature. I set it at 80 degrees, put my hand on it and it was barely warm. I do not recommend this item

This warmer has been great for making my sourdough bread. I have been making this bread for years and wish I had, had this item long before now. It makes it so easy much easier. It allows me to control the temperature perfectly and in so much quicker. It is very precise in its accuracy of the temperature. It allows me to use the dough at the right moment. It has greatly improved the quality of my bread. The promotional picture states that if you will use a glass dome that the affect will be better. This is very true. I have used the glass over my metal or plastic and it does turn out better. Im sure there is a long scientific answer for this but bottom line It does work. My starter has stayed much healthier since I have gotten this warmer. I have been using this here at the end of spring and into early summer weather. I keep my home very cool year round. So the temperature in my home is very difficult to deal with for the fermentation of the starter. I love the timing feature. It truly has been a game changer for me. It is highly functional and removes the guessing game and watching it constantly. If you're really into working with sourdough then this is a must. If you a beginner or a seasoned pro and doing this for years, if you haven't tried this you're missing out.The quality of the this warmer is excellent and worth every penny. It is very accurate. It was well thought out with the features and is easy to use. Truly takes the guess work out of things and speeds up the process a little bit. The price point is well under what it should be. Great deal and great product.

I'm on a sour dough bread making mission. I love this YOLLR brand warmer that helps kick start fermentation of your "mother" starterIt comes with USB Plug and temperature control thats pre-calibrated with precise 1°F Control (70-100°F), 12-Hour timer.I live in a hot climate and sometimes it hard to know how the weather is going to affect the starter when depending on room temperature to get your starter right. You can put this little gismo in a cooler room and you will still get excellent results.Great value and indespensable tool for sour dough bread making.

Until I ordered this heater, I'd never heard of a Sourdough Starter warmer. I had to give it a try. I've been making and using starters for 30 or so years with good success. I have also had times when our kitchen has been a bit on the cooler side to maintain an active starter. So again, I had to give this warmer a try. So far, I'm not seeing a big difference in how the starter is acting. The warmer is basically a hot plate. It only heats the bottom of the starter jar where the two come in contact. The jar itself still feels cool to the touch in all the other areas. It's only been one day so I don't have a good base line established yet. But I've been keep the warmer between 80 and 85 degrees. We are currently experiencing cooler days and nights with frost. Temps in our house have dropped to the low 70's so the starters have become sluggish at room temperatures. If I see notable performance differences over the next few days using the warmer, I will update the review appropriately.

This warming plate for dough is pretty darn good. I was worried that its small size would be an issue but it seems to be able to hold a consistent safe temp for bread dough, even when using a pretty big bowl. I set the temperature (it can also be timed if you choose) and place my bowl on the warmer and put a tea towel over the bowl.I normally keep my sourdough starter in the fridge but when I'm going to make a loaf I like to set it out and let it get nice and active before I use it. I use a mason jar for my starter. This warmer not only keeps my temperature consistent but it also takes the guesswork out of the equation because it has a digital display. I have mainly used it to wake up my sourdough. I have also made pizza dough and a regular white loaf with this warmer's assistance. My house is pretty cool through the fall winter and spring and I know without a doubt I'll get a lot of use from this little warmer plate.
