My Pentair Pool heater failed twice (copper coils in burner leaked) from chlorine & liquid acid backing up into my Pentair heater when the pool pump stopped (no water flow). The service rep from Pentair recommended putting a check valve after the heater output / before the chlorinator & liquid acid injector. My pool installer should have plumbed this in during the initial install. Live & learn the hard (& expensive) way!

This is one of several Spears Clear Union swing check valves I have on my pond system and these are the best. You can see if they need cleaning and have a very long life. I personally would not use anything else.

I had water running in the reverse direction when the pump was shut off. It ran out of my solar heating unit on the roof and whenit did, it pulled DE back into the pool. This solved the problem completely. Very happy.
