I used the ink mainly to do calligraphy and I am SUPER happy with how little I had to use to get beautiful results. There are SO many different nibs in here though, that you are going to get stunning results from however you choose to do your calligraphy.With four different types of inks - gold metallic, pearl (white) metallic, black pearl, and super black inks, you have adequate ink for just about any occasion - from decorating for Christmas to birthday cards.I'll admit it was a bit tricky for me as I am just learning how to do this, to work with the nibs and such. I'll get better - that was on me. But for the money for this kit it seemed easy to use to me, good quality, and of course the size was perfect for the calligraphy I was working on. An additional blessing for me was the inks. SO much ink, and so much variety with them. I was very pleased with that.The one complaint I guess I'd make is that nothing really sits well inside the storage box of them for me. That's the only reason I took a star off, is that everything keeps flying around inside the box on mine.Other than that, I love this kit and I think you get a LOT of product, which makes it a great value for the money in my opinion. Loved almost everything about it. HIGHLY recommend!

The Speedball Modern Calligraphy Kit is a fantastic set with all the tools you need to dive into calligraphy. Speedball is undeniably a top-tier brand when it comes to calligraphy tools, and their reputation for producing high-quality products shines through in this kit.The kit includes a wide variety of nibs, both pointed and broad edge, which are suitable for most calligraphy styles. Speedball offers another kit at a slightly lower price that comes in a nicer wooden storage box but doesn't have quite as many nibs. Unfortunately, this kit is packaged in a cardboard box, which works for storage but doesn’t feel as premium. Personally, I would have preferred fewer nibs in exchange for the better storage box.Both kits include the 25th edition Speedball "Text Book", which is an excellent and thorough reference. The book covers a wide range of calligraphy styles, including a helpful section on flourishing. While it’s a great resource, it doesn’t delve deeply into the basics or include practice sheets with guidelines, so beginners may need to supplement with online resources. There are plenty of websites that provide tutorials as well as practice sheets that you can print out. That said, the book does a good job of showing the direction and order of strokes for various lettering styles, making it a valuable tool for learning.Overall, this kit includes everything you need to start your calligraphy journey. It’s well-suited for both beginners and those looking to expand their collection of tools. I gave it 4 stars because, for the higher price, I think a better storage box should have been included but that’s just my opinion.

When I was a youth, I had a much, much, much earlier version of this set from Speedball, and enjoyed it tremendously then.Forty years later, I was happy to find the same high quality that I had in my original set. Nibs are nice and smooth and the inks flow beautifully. I love Speedball art supplies, and these are the quality I expected.With calligraphy pens, you're relying on gravity to feed the ink, so consider than when you store so your nibs stay fresh. You shouldn't have to press too hard to get the ink to feed. If it dries out, just wash out your nib really well.Nice variety here so you can use the wider nibs to make cards and the finer nibs for beautiful correspondence.Very easy to set up and use - nothing complicated. The nib holder is ergonomic and balanced. Inks flow like butter onto the page.You get a ton of ink and nibs for the investment - truly a very good value for the money.Easy to keep clean and working (maybe even easier than calligraphy pens with cartridges).Nice variety of sizes from thick to thin.Overall, a very nice set that will get your calligraphy efforts underway and/or make a lovely gift for someone who would like to get started with the writing arts.

This is a nice set that lets you take your calligraphy to pro level. I have used the pens with snap in cartridges, and they work ok but don't offer the versatility of a set like this. Also, for long projects or practice sessions, it gets frustrating to run out of ink. With this set, you have a good starter set of nibs, but one can always buy different ones.I really like the book!

I'm new to calligraphy.The classes are very hard to find anymore as I believe it's a lost art.When I saw this kit and everything that comes with it, I had to see if it was worth the money.It comes with 4 inks, 12 nibs, 2 pen holders, an eye dropper and a textbook.The accompaniment of the textbook is what made me choose this kit.I wasn't sure if it was a thorough text book that actually taught you about calligraphy, so I was anxious to open it up and look through it as soon as it arrived.The textbook is indeed very thorough. It tells you about the different nibs, and what they're for.It shows you each different style of writing, how to accomplish the lettering, and which nibs to use to achieve it.The nibs were of nice quality as were the pen holders.I believe it does t matter if you’re a novice like myself or a professional, this kit will be sufficient for both.I can't wait to dive into the book and start learning.
