This product was easy to install on my boat. When paired with a quality vhf antenna and coaxial cable it gets very good signal and audio comes in clear. I am using a a Shakespeare whip antenna with a MPD Digital RG8X coaxial cable. After a long search for info and trial with error I was able to link my chart plotter via NMEA 0183 to access GPS functions. If you install this make sure you have the faceplate cover as the light exposure will destroy your ability to read the screen. I rated the product 4/5 since the NMEA 0183 was a bit of a challenge and due to the screen issue.

Gps has to be connected from remote device

So Be Advised: unless you plan to connect this vhf to the NMEA output ( a very particular NMEA standard as well, it won’t work with just any gps), THIS UNIT WILL NOT WORK FOR YOU! Due to some new FCC regulation, marine vhf radios now must be connected to gps. Many have integrated gps; this one doesn’t. So it will alarm every 10 minutes until you connect it to a compatible gps, and believe it or not, the alarm function cannot be disabled. So I have researched this some more, and the sad story gets worse....This unit uses an old standard, NMEA 0183, to communicate with the gps it needs to function. Even if you bought a brand new chart plotter, this radio probably wouldn’t understand it, because it probably uses the new standard, NMEA 2000, which is totally different. Yes you could get a converter box, but that would cost about $200. Yaesu knows this very well, but fails to mention any of it to the unsuspecting customer.

It works well. The biggest problem is you can leave it on without an alarm going off every 10 min. The screen will read POS is over. It's easily turned off, but who wants do go through that every 10 min. If there is a way to disable it, I've not found it yet.
