The VW beetle had a one year alternator in 1974 that used an external regulator mounted under the back seat, and is plug compatible.This is the regulator!

I bought a voltage regulator for a 1979 VW. The listing said this fits the &( VW. When it arrived it had to wiring diagram to say what wires go where so now I sit with a regulator and no way of knowing how it's supposed to be wired in. The only information that came with it says it fits a GM, Ford
