I connected the hard drive dock to a USB 3 port on my PC, plugged it in,inserted a old hard drive then turned it on and it worked perfectly. My only complaint is that the power adapter cord was a bit too short, necessitating the need for an extension cord to reach a power outlet. It also would have been nice to have had a USB cable that was a bit longer. Other than that minor complaint I highly recommend this unit.

This thing works great and always has. I have not had any trouble with any of the StarTech devices I have owned. I consider their stuff excellent and I check with them first if I have any computer needs I think they can fulfill.

I used this dock to put a Samsung EVO SATA III hard drive into my 2011 MacBook Pro and it was very easy.

The product works really well and is useful if you need to read a hard drive quickly without putting it into a system, however it is quite expensive for what it does.

Good product much faster than the USB 2.0 external drive I have. I occasionally needed a an external drive bay to recover data for family and friends. Copying the contents of the old hard drive to the new hard drive when the old drive wouldn't boot is primarily what this is used for. I would also take old drives that I removed from old PC and pull data from them. Good product always worked.

The product worked when paired with an IDE adapter to connect an old desktop hard drive to a laptop. It worked with a laptop running Windows XP and I was able to read from and write to the drive, transfer files from the drive and run programs hosted on the drive. The setup is a little cumbersome and the adapter does not hold the drive firmly in place, but the provided cables and software allow the connection to work.It did not work with laptops running Windows 8 or Windows 10. The OS recognized a drive was there but gave an invalid device message when trying to read from it.

Does what it's supposed to do. Received mine with a broken door. Door was only hanging on one hinge. Other hinge was off and spring was inside rolling around. But product still works well and does the job.

Does exactly what it says on the box, performs well, and I've had no issues with it so it gets the full 5 stars. UASP mode works automatically with both Mac and Linux (haven't tried Windows yet).I copied many terabytes of backup data at full rate (as fast as the drive could take it) non-stop for several hours - no issues or errors. I have also left a drive connected to one of my desktop machines for a couple of weeks straight with no problems. In both of those use cases I have seen other enclosures fail so this is a win for me.

Use this for backup on my main PC... can also clone drive (software not included) just in case main drive fails. Easy to use USB 3.0 for faster speed. I keep my backup drive online only while backing up
