This review is for the "4 Bays M.2 NVMe Duplicator Offline Cloner USB 4 Type C to SSD Docking Station, 40Gbps M.2 Copy Reader for (M Key, B+M Key) PCIE Dock, Size for 22110 2280 2260 2242 2230 Enclosure - Pilot C4C."I use this mostly for cloning one ssd at a time, but the option to clone many is important to me as that will come in handy in the future on some projects. It's built pretty well and oddly it does an adequate job with heat dissipation. However, I wouldn't try running m.2 SSDs from this cloner for prolonged times without attaching heat sinks. As another reviewer stated, if you want full 40Gbps speeds, you will need a USB 4.0 compatible computer and accompanying cable. It's worthy of recommendation based on functionality and price.

The Pilot C4C 4-bay M.2 NVMe duplicator and cloner is a powerful tool for IT professionals, data recovery work, or anyone managing multiple SSDs. It supports both M key and B+M key formats and fits a wide range of M.2 sizes, from 2230 to 22110. The offline cloning feature works smoothly, making quick copies without needing a computer interface.Transfer speeds via USB4 Type-C are fast, making this an excellent docking station for everyday use in addition to cloning. It’s ideal for those managing backups, migrations, or system setups. The build is compact and sturdy, with adequate heat dissipation during heavy use.The setup was plug-and-play, and the interface is intuitive with indicator lights for status. This is a professional-grade tool, so it might be overkill for casual users, but for tech pros or small IT teams, it’s a high-value asset.

Pretty nice dock, it does run at 40gbps if you have a capable port. The slim design is also nice for having it permanently on your desk. I did not try out the stand alone copy mode since I usually don't have any issues with that feature on drive docks and currently don't have a need to do so. My only complaint is that you MUST have the power brick plugged in to even use this as a NVME reader. I was hoping the power brick was only needed if doing standalone copy and/or more than one NVME drive. Windows 11 immediately detected and worked (Plug & play) style, no need to download / manually install drivers.I can easily recommend this unit, especially for my IT Support & system administrators.

If you do a lot of work on computers like I do, this tool is a game changer. It makes it super easy to clone an SSD for upgrades or migrations to another PC. What’s even cooler is the ability to clone one drive to multiple targets—huge time saver! A great addition to any tech toolkit. 💻🔄💾

So, this is supposed to provide you with an offline way to copy and a way to add multiple m2 drives to your system.Copying offline is pretty straightforward; the instructions say to hold down the copy button and off you go. Make sure that the drives you are copying to are larger or the same size as your source driver or it will not start. I learned that after an hour of testing. It does take a while though, longer than I think copying directly should. Moving 570gb from one NVME to two others took over 1.5 hours. It would have been faster to manually attach each drive to the computer and copy that way but fine, it works, albeit slowly. The second option is a USB4 powered device that lets you add multiple NVME drives to your system externally. In this regard it works great. You slot in the drives, connect the USB 4 cable (included) turn on the awkward “ON” switch and you have new drives available. Copying is very speedy and exactly what I expect from a USB 4 connection from my computer (2500MB - 3200MB).Now the problems:*You cannot copy from one drive to the other that are in the bays. It’s fine up to about 100-200mb (based on your SSD's onboard memory) but then it will just sort of stop... and think about it... for a while. It is not even worth trying to copy files that way.*The “ON” switch is not only in a terrible position, its recessed and slightly difficult to turn on and off... and since this is not hot swappable, you must turn it on and off a lot. It is on the back of the drive near the bottom, so be prepared to pick this up a lot.*Your drives will have to hang on for dear life by their connector. This isn’t a problem with an external M2 cradle when there is some kind of support or locking mechanism to keep the drive in. Not with this. If you accidentally bump any of the 4 easily swayed m2 drives that you insert, snapping off the connector or tearing the drive out of the cradle is going to happen. It is much easier to do when you keep having to pick it up to turn it on and off.*The lights for the drive showing they are in and being accessed are behind the standing drive. This means you can’t see it unless you look behind it. That makes no sense, they should be in front where the percentage of your copy is shown, also which is where the power button should be.*These drives will get hot because "cooling fins" will not make your burning hot sticks of memory cool off. It needs an active fan either blowing from the bottom or encasing the entire cradle to help with temps. Especially when you have 4 within inches of each other. With these problems the current price is not a good value. It does do, mostly, what it says it will but at this price you can find better… but maybe not with USB 4. So you want USB 4? Here is a sort of works product for you.

I got this 4-bay M.2 NVMe duplicator for quick offline cloning. It's pretty straightforward to use: just plug in your SSDs, press and hold the clone button, and it starts copying. It's got USB 4 for fast speeds, up to 40 Gbps when all four slots are used, but you'll need a USB 4-compatible computer and cable. It's compatible with various M.2 NVMe sizes, but not SATA. The aluminum alloy case helps with heat dissipation, and it's portable too. It's super easy when you have to set up multiple pc's for a lab at school.
