This was a perfect replacement for a Face Company Dipstick with the upgraded tablet. After a few years of use and abuse, the DB9 end tends to fall apart due to the way the device is built, replacing it was a pain but this was the *identical* part.

I bought it because my Tripplite version wouldn’t work with my M1. This solved the problem and being USB-C let’s me skip the adapter.

One possible use for this is, to install an Android terminal app from the Play Store on one's phone or tablet, and then to possess a portable serial terminal. I tested this on a Samsung S9, and it worked just fine, without also requiring an OTG adapter.-Dirk

I needed this to control my Kenwood TS-480SAT with my 2020 MacBook Pro. USB to serial converters are often problematic on Macs and the old standby TrippLite Keyspan drivers don’t seem to work any longer so I tried this one. I just plugged it in and, poof, it worked first time with no issue. It seems solid and i didn’t need to load any drivers with either Ventura or Sonoma.

Downloaded drivers from Startech site. Pleased to see a folder for Mac OS 11. Installed, rebooted, connected the cable and connected right away to the console of a Cisco switch. Perfect.
