This starter was obtained as a replacement for a worn starter on my Briggs & Stratton twin-cylinder engine. It looks exactly like the original and worked as expected. I did have to file a tiny bit of metal from the edge of the mounting bracket for a good fit and to allow the mounting holes to line up perfectly, but that is probably due to the layout of this particular engine. Other than just being in an awkward, hard-to-reach place, it was a pretty easy swap. Depending on your situation, a Torx bit mounted to a universal joint may make it easier to get to the bolts. Here’s another tip: If after installing you find the engine won’t turn over past the compression stroke, assuming your battery is good, check your valve clearance. Loose clearance on a B&S will affect the operation of the compression release feature of the cam. I had this issue, and adjusting both valves to .005” solved the problem.

Perfect fit. A starter without a gear is quite useless. This corrected that problem. Two bolts and a wire and I was ready to go.
