I purchased this as a gift for my brother. I wasn't sure about it because I had never seen this unusual instrument before, but my brother was not only pleased, but he was very knowledgeable about how to use it.

I just purchased my second 13", 15 note drum as a gift for my 8 year old grandson. I purchased the navy, which looks black to me; I love the textured finish. I purchased this same drum in aqua a couple of years ago and was awed by the resonance, similar to a 4 1/2 octave marimba. The sound is clear and liquid with no trash can lid overtones. The tongues are accurately tuned; this one is in the key of D-- I can play a host of fiddle tunes in D, A mixolydian, and G lydian modes. It took a bit to get used to the arrangement of the scale tones, but it has proved to be very easy to get around on.I was concerned that the quality might have changed in two years: it has not. This navy drum is just as beautiful sounding and well-tuned as my first purchase. I'm very satisfied! If you're looking for beautiful, floaty, ethereal tones to fill your house, this is the drum.

This thing is just plain FUN. I don't have any particular musical talent, nor do I do stuff like "purify the air" or whatever the latest "lightworkers'" terminology is, using the tonal qualities of drums or tone drums. I got it for fun. I have fun with it. It sounds lovely, and that is all that I wanted!I can plink out a few tunes on this; more often, I have fun just playing with it, putting sounds together that make me happy and sound pretty. It's big, and has a LOT of tones to work with. (Notes? I dunno. Again, not a musician!) I can knock out a number of pop tunes, oldies, and folk songs on this, as well as old spirituals and hymns on this, and it has a nice heft. The sound is clear and pure, and absolutely lovely. It can be heard throughout the house, if I use the rubber mallets that I picked up here on Amazon (having tried a few types, I can happily recommend the Kesoto wood and rubber ones- you have to wait a little extra for them to arrive, but they're absolutely worth it! https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RFH4V1G/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) The sound carries, and is clear. My ex would hate this. Which literally makes me love it all the more!Anyhow, as a non-musician plinker-for-fun, I heartily endorse this one. If you are rediscovering your childhood love of making happy noises, this is absolutely WONDERFUL.If you're on the fence, and can afford it, just get it. You won't be sorry. :)

Wow! What a great deal on on this 12" 13-tone C-Maj. tongue drum! Beautiful, textured finish (didn't think I'd care for "blue," but seeing it in person, I would have been disappointed with anything else). The tone & TUNE are spot-on & it arrived FAST/exactly as presented. Even my puppy likes it! Heck, the case itself should have cost what I paid WITHOUT the instrument! Only added finger mallets & mallet stand as a separate order because they were not included. Extremely happy!

I'm not a music expert, so I'm a bit confused. The bottom of the drum shows a D yet the advertisement title says it's in the key of C. I downloaded a tuner app to my phone and hit the 1 and the tuner shows D. Two of my friends also ordered this drum. One of them also gets D on their tuner, but the other friend gets C on her tuner when she hits the 1. I'm not a tongue drum expert. For my first one, it sounds nice and I'm enjoying it, but I don't have a really expensive one to compare it to. The bag is really nice and the mallets are nice and sturdy. The drum is pretty, decorative and well built and the rubber feet hold it nice and steady on a table top. It's great for the money and your first drum so you can start playing and learn more about them. I'm not sure that this would be good if you were playing on a professional level and performing. Overall, I'm happy with it and having a lot of fun playing beautiful and relaxing melodies.
