My kids love to paint so they were very excited to use this set. I was excited that the paint cups have tops! This is a great set for kids to introduce them to painting. The cups are good size so they can hold a lot of paint but they are still easy for small hands to hold on to them. I appreciate that the cups have tops on them so if they get bumped over paint doesn’t go everywhere.The brushes are big and easy to hold onto and so far the bristles have been pretty durable/held their shape. I really like that it comes with a little palate for my kids to hold - it’s also a great opportunity to teach them how to mix primary colors to make new colors.Overall, this is a nice set for kids to paint and is really easy to clean up and my kids love it.

I wouldn’t call these spill proof, but rather mess preventing. I have had a few items with these types of lids on them, all claiming to be spill proof, had them get knocked over, and have had to clean up the spills. That being said, they most definitely made the mess a lot smaller than it would have been without them, and I can see that with these. Anything in this set that is plastic (which is the majority of it save the brushes) is a thin lower grade plastic. The brushes are good quality, in fact surprisingly so, and for the current price at the time of this review, it’s a great deal. It does what you hope it would do - provide what is needed for painting (minus the paints) and keep messes to a minimum. It’s a win win!
