like all of these heat shielding cloths, you can eventually burn holes through them with enough work, but this one has held up really well. i was just sweating some copper in a really tight area and had to protect the abs drain. this was plenty big to cover the 1.5" abs, fit behind two 1/2" copper pipes that i was sweating, and even extend up a bit to the subfloor so that the hot air from my mapp gas torch was mostly blocked from the abs.something foil-backed might be even tougher, but much less convenient and flexible. this is my go-to cloth for when im worried about burning things and it has not failed me, even in tight situations.

Had to change my rating. I used this and on about the 10th time, while brazing a sealed system on refrigerator the material caught fire, I only braze in maybe 10 second intervals - I was able to blow it out but I was shocked to see a hole burned through this material.

Packaged as shown but hand cut, I think. I'm not a plumber nor a welder. I used box store bought can of map gas with attached nozzle to test. The flame at full blast and tip about 3 inches away. About 15-20 seconds on any area. I was outside.First, it smoked a lot. I don't know what is being burned off, but it is noxious. I would wear a vapor mask to use this. Less smoke going back to the area, but it wasn't predictable. One corner caught fire and flamed, but not other areas. I put a soft wood behind and it wasn't even scorched. That was good.I may be doing some copper pipe soldering in near future, so I will come back with a report, but the smoke and smell is making me cringe thinking about using this.

This might last 10 to 20 jobs, so if it does its job, all is well. But I expected it to last longer. You can't get this thing wet, or it will instantly be ruined when heat hits it (keep that in mind if you're working environment isn't a clean room). On the first use, it became so brittle when I pulled it out from between the spaces it was protecting and snugly fit into, it tore a hole in it. I didn't keep the flame on it long, but at times you can't help it and it seems 5 seconds to 10 seconds was enough to damage it. Your results may vary depending on torch tip size and heat produced and distance. I was using a 0 tip and maybe 5 inches away from the flame blanket.

Wow...soft and flexible, perfect for experiments with alcohol stove design. costs a bit more...maybe...yet is very high quality. I only wish I would have invented this stuff. 1/4 inch thick and really is 18 inches by 18 inches.

Works as described even under direct MAPP Gas.Folded over the back side stays cool to the touch even after a minute of MAPP use on the opposing side. The blanket gets orange but doesn't ignite of seem to break down over heat.

I wasn't sure about this but it worked very well, protected both the joists during an overhead solder and the drywall for a vertical solder. It's thick enough to do the job but thin enough that I could use a screwdriver to push it into the gap between joists, when I wasn't in a position to use the holes.

I ordered this based on other shooters' recommendations. I run suppressors on my guns, and naturally they get extremely hot. With the heat blanket, I can wrap the can and either remove it, or use it when I lay it down on something that can burn. Blanket is very soft and does a great job and insulating heat. Edit 4/19 : I've been using this now for years and it's still like new. Naturally there's not much abuse to it, but I am very happy with my purchase all these years later.
