This tool features five scanning modes to accommodate various wall material thicknesses:
Stud 1⁄2 in. Scan Mode: Locates the center and edges of wood and metal studs up to 1⁄2 in. (13 mm) deep
Stud 1 in. Scan Mode: Locates the center and edges of wood and metal studs up to 1 in. (25 mm) deep

How to calibrate:
- Place the Stud finder against the wall (Stud /Metal mode)or air(AC mode) first.
- Press the Scan button(on the side of the tool) to start calibration this tool but do not move and try to scan at this moment, Wait for the reducing bars to disappear and the buzzer will beep one time and the calibration is completed.
- Then you can release the scan button and begin scanning.

Stud Scan Detection
There are three different depths of 0.5in, 1in, and 1.5in available in the stud mode, and it can locate the center and edges of wood and metal studs up to 38mm/1.50in deep. To minimize false positives, always start your scan in 0.5in Mode first.
Metal Scan Detection
It can precisely locate magnetic metal with a maximum depth of 60mm/2.36in.
Note: After you detect the center of an object. Please Use Metal Scan Mode to determine if the previous reading in the Stud scan was a wood stud, metal stud, or pipe.
AC Wire Detection
In this mode detect live, unshielded AC wires, electrical wires up to 2 inches (51 mm) deep.
Note: Wire Warning Detection works in ALL Modes including Stud/Metal Scan. The Wire Warning Icon will flash when live wires are detected.

Got this at a good price and whilst there may be better detectors out there price was key to me. I have used it to find studs that I know where they are and it worked perfectly. So from that perspective it’s accurate and was easy to use. The instructions are ok but there are better instructions for other products out there think of quick start guides and the likes and it’s amazing how pictograms can help (which it doesn’t have that many of). Battery life seems ok but I haven’t used it that much yet. The main reason for marking it down is that the plastics feel cheap and it may be that they don’t last as much as other products but hey they are also more expensive.

I was really glad I had this stud finder. I had actually forgotten about it. I’ll be honest with you, but I had a wooden art piece that needed to go on the wall that at least weighed 25 pounds so I had to have studs and of course the heavy duty anchors to put up my husband, fortunately did the work, and he said without the stud finder, we may have had a fallen piece of art, which would’ve been a danger to the cats or grandchildren. So because of the stud finder, they are securely in the wall and it’s been up now for a couple months and looks fantastic , thank you to this stud finder. You will definitely need one eventually for something so you might as well get one at a very good value price.

I live in an old house and needed to put up some shelving. I ordered this to help me see what is inside the walls.For this project I laid craft paper across the section of wall in question. This way I could mark the paper to show where everything is. Basically every time this alerted I put a mark on the paper. I wanted to see what the entire wall looked like inside. This turned out to be a good idea as it is not a framed home at all but instead is post and beam and so things don't line up like they do in a modern house. I was able to map out the entire wall and had a very good idea where to put screws and so now I have two well mounted shelves holding over a hundred pounds between them over my bed and I have absolutely no fear of it falling because I was able to put the screws into the posts behind the drywall no problem.As I mentioned in the title this was very easy to use. You almost don't need instructions because it is fairly intuitive though I have used stud finders before. This one is by far the best I have used.I highly recommend this.

So I've had only cheapish stud finders and they all work okay and decently, this one is the same. It works well enough to do what I need it to. Is it perfect no but for this price point it works for what it is.
