This is the exact part number that the Subaru dealer sells you. For some reason Amazon pops up a warning that it doesn't fit 2018 BRZ, I double checked the filter that is on the car, which I bought from the dealer. Exact same P/N.

There are 2 different oil filters that one can buy for their BRZ. This one is the Japanese version, which is black, and requires an 80mm wrench to install. The blue filter is a different diameter & is the one sold at most auto parts stores. So, if you get this one, make sure to get the 80mm wrench, not the other size for the blue filter. Filter was very easy to install.

I've made a point in the past few years to be extremely discerning as to what filters go on my Forester. Since Subaru does things a little differently it can often be a challenge to find one which has the right characteristics, most importantly the proper bypass valve pressure. Almost every generic ones I've found fits, but the pressure is WAY low thus meaning oil is bypassing the filter more often.I don't trust the build quality of the OEM blue ones made in North America, as others have mentioned they are made in the Honeywell plant which is the same producer for the lovely orange FRAM can. You can find pictures online of people cutting open the $2.50 FRAM and the Subaru Blue one and they're identical inside. But this one... THIS is a whole other ballgame. The build quality internally is frankly astonishing. I've looked into lots of filters cut open and the Toyko Roki is light years above the average. Now, there are some caveats to this filter: it's FAT. And when I say fat, it's realllyyy fat. (By which I'm meaning outside diameter.) On my Forester (2001) the overall filter is larger than the oil cooler. It mates up fine as seal and openings are in the same spot but there's a lot of filter to go around. Keep in mind on many models because of the way the headers are positioned you CANNOT use these larger filters as they're too close to the header which causes overheating of the oil. In this regard you have to know your vehicle if you can take a "fat filter" or not. If you're turbo'ed you most certainly cannot. A deal of naturally aspirated ones will be OK. Amazon states this does not fit my model but I can attest that it does just fine as my headers are FAR away.As a helpful alternative if you need a skinny filter the WIX 57712 (Napa 7712) meets spec and also I believe the late model Mazda RX-8 filter is a Toyko Roki and fits and meets spec as well.
