We use this to test our softener efficacy and does a great job. Also, it allows us to know the hardness of our water and input into the softener. We use this formula on the untreated tap water to get the grains per gallon for input: # drops of R-0011L x 100 = XX ppm ÷ 17.1 = XX grains per gallon.

If you low to average levels of hardness this kit works great! The stripes will not go low enough for me, but this kit works fantastic

This may have been a good test kit, but I can't tell since it is missing one of the chemicals needed for the testing. It was in a sealed package, so it is probably a manufacturer oversight that the .75 ml Hardness Reagent is missing from the package. Because test kits are considered a chemical product, Amazon doesn't allow any returns or I would have returned it (or exchanged it) for a complete kit. $35 lesson learned.

I needed something to check Ca level on my Gunite pool . It was perfect for my needs and simple to use! Took the water sample to the pool store afterward to get a parallel check and it was perfect!

Don't ever waste your money on paper test strips, for anything. This kit is professional grade, gives accurate and repeatable measurements, and is easy to use for anyone who can read. You should test your water softener a few times each year to be sure it is working. It is most important to test your softener just before it is going to regenerate. (You should always see clear blue color as soon as you add the indicator solution. With a working softener, you should never need to do the last step, which is adding reagent drops.)

This test kit gives accurate results for testing water hardness. The one thing I didn't like so much was the requirement to use 20 drops of the calcium buffer each time you run the test. This is time consuming and adds to the frustration (at least in my case) of troubleshooting a water softener problem. There is an alternative method provided that uses only 10 drops but the math calculation changes. In other words: If you are just testing one time to check the water hardness, then the kit works fine, but if you need to repeatedly check to see if your water softener is working, then you could run out of the calcium buffer. When you test soft water with the kit, the results are striking: one drop of the Hardness Reagent will change the color from red to blue. When you test hard water, it might take 20 or more drops to change the color. All that said, it is a very good and accurate product.
