I ordered these adapters to keep my 18volt DeWalt tools running without having to re-invest in old-style batteries. For so long, I was reluctant to buy the 20volt tools to avoid purchasing multiple battery styles. When the 18volt batteries began to lose their ability to charge, and I upgraded or replaced tools, the 20volt and 60volt tools became the obvious choice. These adapters let me use 20volt batteries. Plus, using these adapters, I have found the new batteries have a longer lasting charge that the original style 18volt batteries, depending on the amps hour rating..The adapters appear to have the same DeWalt colors, and the plastic seems to be sturdy enough. I have not tested them with an accidental drop off the top of a step ladder, but banging around in my truck, toolbox, and on the job, they do just fine. The OEM batteries slide into the adapter easily. The adapter slides easily into the base of my 18volt reciprocating saw and my 18 volt XRP impact drill. I note that the 20volt Dewalt battery is slightly tight to remove from the adapter while it is in the tool. One thing I like is that the adapter has a 5volt output, which makes it a portable power bank for charging a flashlight or a phone, a camera, or a laptop with the huge power reserve of a high amp hour battery.I note that the adapter will not charge the battery from an old style 18volt charger. The battery must be removed from the adapter and charged with a 20volt charger.I recommend this adapter to DIYers, and professionals who want to upgrade their power without purchasing a new tool.

Ultimately, these adapters work in converting your battery power, but they are annoying to get in place. I've had more success inserting a USB cable with my eyes closed than I have getting these attached on the first try. Even if it's a millimeter or two, it makes a difference - something is off.Make sure to do yoga or something before working with these to ensure you're patient and centered before you begin.

Pros: Much Cheaper than OEM adapter, USB slot to charge other things, Easier to remove than OEM adapterCons: Not the same Dewalt yellow, plastic doesn't feel as sturdyPictures: 1. Adapter with battery on tool 2. Adapter with battery plugged into USB powering mag safe phone dock 3. Side by side comparison (OEM left) 4. Side view of the angle of adapters (OEM in back)Now for the wordy review: Now I am comparing this to the OEM adapter that I currently have 2 of. The cost of these is so much better than that of the OEM and they work BETTER than the OEM in my experience. They are better because they are easier to remove from the tools as the spring tension is not as stiff as the OEM (which is hard to remove most times). Because the OEM was so difficult to remove, I just bought more adapters to leave them on the tool, but now it's too costly. With these handy little adapters, they also give us a USB outlet, which I will be using when we go camping as an easy way to power a phone, Bluetooth speaker or any other gadget I have that needs a charge. As for another reviewer that commented about how the adapter has a slant that makes the tool sit at a funny angle, it's the same way with the OEM adapter, it is what it is. I definitely recommend this adapter over the more expensive OEM one without a doubt.

I picked up a few bare (no battery) Dewalt power tools at a local auction. I have the more recent 20v lithium ion batteries, but these tools had the older NiCad style. These converters slide right into the tool with a satisfying latch, and the battery connected perfectly. It powered the tool just as if it was meant for it. These are lightweight, adding virtually no weight to the tool. The picture makes them look like the battery would be at an odd angle, but because of the way the old Dewalt tools were designed, it ends up being flat. It does add a little extra length, but depending on the tool it doesn't matter that much. I only have 2 of these old-style tools, so plan to just leave these converters in the tools, and swap out the batteries as needed.

I ordered these 20V-18V battery adapters because I still have two sets of 18V tools, and I want to continue to use them. The 20V battery with adapter is bulkier than the original NiMH, but it carries more power allowing me to use the tools longer. I’ve also used several after-market 18V lithium batteries that have the same form factor as the NiMH batteries, but those alternatives do not carry as much power, and have a slightly higher failure rate. Both adapters I received work well, and I didn’t have any issues using them on my 18V tools. I like the USB port because it allows me to use the 20V as a battery supply or power charger.

These are so handy! I have lots of the DeWalt 18v tools and the batteries are all shot, I've been purchasing more DeWalt tools in the 20v class now and so that is the batteries I've also been purchasing. These adaptors make my older 18v tools work just fine with the newer 20v batteries.I now have 8 of these adaptors and will purchase more as needed. These things fit great!I also like the fact that when the power goes out I can put a 20v battery in one of these adaptors and then charge my cell phone off of it's USB port! That makes it so useful!

These adapters offer an inexpensive way to get more utility out of your 20V DeWalt batteries. I like trying to keep a single type of tool battery rather than having a different battery for each tool. I already have several DeWalt 20V batteries, and having these in the bullpen enabled me to pick up an 18V tool cheap at Goodwill and stick with the same batteries and charger. They fit on the battery perfectly, and slot into the tool just like a regular 18V battery. The material is durable, and at $16.99 for a pair of adapters, are a really cheap option.
