We have had so much fun playing this game as a family with our 4 & 6yr old's. Both of them are learning to read and getting comfortable with their letters/words. Love that this game offers varying skill levels depending on what are you are wanting to focus on for learning. My only complaint is that the play pieces to advance on the board haven't held up well over time. But you aren't limited to using the pieces it comes with, so I wouldn't let be a deterrent. Very easy game to play, but great for supporting kids development with reading.

This game is a game changer for our homeschool. I have three children that can play it together because of a different deck of cards. They love the squishy and I love that they're learning to read while we're playing! Also, I love how versatile it is. A homeschooler can use any curriculums flashcards with it. If they're just willing to adopt it a bit this is brilliant and I will definitely recommend to my friends!

As a parent and former educator, Iβm always on the lookout for games that are both fun and educationalβand SquishyLand is a total win! My kids are completely obsessed with it, and I love how it sneakily teaches foundational reading skills while theyβre playing. The squishies are a genius addition. They keep little hands busy while reinforcing what theyβre learning. The game works seamlessly for small group centers, making it perfect for homeschooling or classroom use. Iβve noticed my kids are far more engaged and confident in their reading after just a few rounds. The characters and interactive gameplay make it feel more like an adventure than a lesson. Itβs so easy to differentiate for different skill levels, so my younger child and older child can play together without frustration. If youβre looking for a game that blends fun, learning, and high-quality materials, I canβt recommend SquishyLand enough. Itβs worth every penny!

This is a well-constructed game made with high quality materials. It is very well packaged and organized in the box. The question cards are a little too easy for each level but we still had fun playing it together. It is very similar to Candy Land so my five-year-old granddaughter caught on very easily. The squishes are sticky and leave marks on the game board so be prepared for that. And the squishies also became toys and when I rounded them up, they were dirty because the stickiness picked up all the hair and lint! So be prepared to put them away so they are saved for game play.

As an elementary school teacher for thirty-five years, I always found that the students who received extra help at home in reading were the ones most likely to be successful. Having grandsons who are in the target age range for this product and knowing that they both love to play games, I thought this might provide some good supplemental instruction for therm. As a specialist in the language arts, I am a big believer in a balanced approach to reading; while the development of a good sight word vocabulary is very important, so is the development of word analysis skills that allow students to see the similarities and differences in words. This product concentrates on the latter, having identified a set of key phonetic and word attack skills to focus on. There is nothing particularly unique or innovative about the skills selected but they all have merit as important foundational skills to reading. There are two decks of cards for each grade level (pre-K, K, 1, and 2) although, of course, the decks you choose to use will depend on each individual childβs reading level. The playing board for the game consists of a pathway of coloured steps which lead back and forth, finally ending at the Crystal Castle. The childβs movement around the board is controlled by the cards they draw. Most of the cards pose a question that, if answered correctly, allow the player to move forward to the next block on the boardβs path that matches the colour of the gem on the card. Some cards allow you to take two steps (again onto the colour on the board indicated by the colour on the card) while there are a few that make you move back on the board, move to a matching picture space on the board, or answer a challenge card. The board itself has some shortcuts and hazards (bubbles) to make play more interesting. Play continues around the table until someone has reached the Crystal Castle. If you have ever played the game Candy Land you will have no trouble figuring it out! The game does come with a clear set of playing instructions; each card set includes a card containing instructions specific to using that set. There are enough cards contained in the eight sets to last a fairly long time; they have a nice quality linen finish, are colourfully illustrated, and feature appropriately large print. I found that there were a few too many cards (shark cards and gem cards) that didnβt require a player to answer a question; I would likely remove some of these from play to reduce the luck factor in the game. The game can be sped up by removing some or all of the shark cards from play. The board is visually striking, bright, inviting, and divided into sections which adds a bit of interest; it is however somewhat flimsy and does have a tendency to warp a bit. The playing tokens (squishy sea creatures) are really appealing to kids. One of the best things about this game is that it accommodates children of varying reading levels since each child can play with the deck which best suits their skill level (two or more students at the same level can share a deck). That being said, be aware that the game will require the help of an adult or older child who can evaluate each childβs answer since the cards are not self correcting and the correct answer is not shown anywhere on the card. In a classroom setting, this game would best be played with a parent volunteer, an older βreading buddyβ, or an aide. The game is designed to accommodate six players although it is likely best played with two to four. This is essentially a game which makes flashcards fun; it is easy to learn, fast paced, relatively short, and great for those home schooling. I really like that fact that children at different levels can each have their own deck allowing fair, head to head competition. The materials are of decent quality and the game will likely appeal to most children in the target audience. While fairly expensive, the ease with which you can get set up and start playing makes this game worthwhile (particularly if purchased when a child is at a pre-K level so you can use it for a few years.
