I purchased this kit primarily for the sector gear. However, the pinion that is supplied with this kit is not properly heat treated. Teeth began to chip away almost immediately. It appears very brittle. After a few minutes of operation I was unable to steer due to missing teeth. I was forced to re-install the old pinion, which was still serviceable, in order to return to my garage. Fortunately the new sector gear was not badly damaged.

I bought this kit to have on hand when my steering needed to be replaced the next time because it wears out periodically and doesn't give much warning when it's about to fall. Today was the day, but I knew I was ready. Like someone else said, it's a lot of work. Too much work to have this happen the first time you turn the steering wheel. No return. Ordered it too long ago.

I installed this Kit on a John Deere D160. The pin gear broke the first time I used it and the bushings had more slop then the worn out original bushings so the gears don't align properly. The rack gear seams to be OK. Because of time constraints I didn't try to return it or contact The ROP Shop. I installed new OEM bushings and a pin gear from a local John Deere dealer and they seem to be working fine with after market rack gear. I was impressed with the quick delivery from The ROP Shop and will order from them in the future, Just not this kit.
