Older skewers did not work well for MTBs with large diameter front fork tubes, but this revision works well. With changing standards, if you have a thru-axle, you'll need an adapter. My adapter is not lockable and is therefore not secure, but I don't need it to be. A secure adapter would also need some kind of locking mechanism.

I've been a serious cyclist for 35 years and a professional cycling and triathlon coach for 29 years, so i've had many racks by Thule, Yakima, and others. I recently purchased a Tesla, whose rack is made by Yakima, so I was advised to get Yakima bike racks for it. The rack is OK - not great, but not terrible. The Yakima fork mount attachment, however, was TERRIBLE. There were metal cylinders that were free to slide back and forth that you had to get in place to get the fork in - all while holding the bike up. Once it was in, you couldn't tighten or loosen the skewer while the bike was on top. You had to take it off, tighten or loosen a little bit, then put the bike back up and hope you got it right. This Thule product reminds me why I strongly prefer their products. Thankfully, it fit the Yakima rack and works far, far more smoothly. It is so nice when a well-designed product does exactly what it is supposed to.

I bought this for my rooftop mount… it’s overkill but very secure to have another locking bit, even though the front wheel mount has a cable.Compacts nearly flat when not in use on the roof rail

I had broken off the key on my Thule bike rack skewer and was not able to get the broken key section out of the lock. The skewer still worked but I would not be able to lock the bike on the rack. So, I ordered a new skewer from Amazon vendor Outland USA. The skewer arrived shortly after. It was in an original sealed Thule package and was an exact replacement for the original skewer.

All photos on thule website and and dealer that sells this part advertise it shown with a sleeve that you need to make this work with the thule thru ride. I have purchased this part twice now thinking maybe the first one was just missing the sleeve and had to return both. anything you search online says you need this part but without the sleeve the rest of the part is useless. Now i have a thule thru ride rack that I cannot fix a quick release bike set up to can anyone give me advice this is getting irritating dealers and thule are scratching there head not knowing what to do . Even on youtube when you search this part it is shown with a sleeve on it this is absolutely ridiculous,

Easy to install and use. Like most bike rack systems for cars, $40 is a lot of money for something that is really very simple and frankly should come standard with a $200+ rack system.

Work perfectly! Much better than the previous design. Allows for one hand operation.

By far a horrible design, but you need it. I used to own a Yakima bike rack that had locks for the fork mounts but it was integrated with the mount. When it isn't gripping a fork, you can literally pull it apart and take it off, just wish it had full integration with the mount.
