Ignore all the comments about needing a transformer. It was made for 120V outlets. Works fine, mochi wasn't completely smooth, but that could've just been insufficient soaking and steaming. Super easy to clean.

Love this machine. When it comes to making mochi with this machine, you HAVE to use the cup they provide with the machine to measure your rice. They classify this cup as one cup of rice even though it doesn’t measure out to one cup. DO NOT measure your rice with a measuring cup or your rice will not turn out. Make sure you follow how much water they say to use.

So far the product is fine... After using it, I think you could get away with using a bread maker. Steam some sweet rice so its nice a soft and then use the kneading mode on your bread maker to pound the cooked rice. This machine is just more convenient. The recipe in the manual is pretty useless for dryer climates. You need more water in the steamer and to add a little water as its being pounded. You will need to fuss with the rice, i.e. turn off the pounder, take the rice out, turn it over, muck it around, turn the beater back on. The motor doesn't seem very beefy, make sure you stop the pounding approx every 5 minutes and let the motor cool down for a bit as the possibility of cooking the motor is really.

My Japanese Grandma had one of these from Japan when I was growing up. It is a Tiger and has been working for over 25 years. It's STILL working to this day, which is why I bought this Tiger Mochi Maker.I've gone through my first 10 lbs of rice in the first week making Mochi for Friends and Family. The machine is consistent, easy to use, easy to clean, and makes great Mochi. I've only used White Sweet Rice from California so I do not have experience with anything else. I've only made regular Mochi as well. I have not tried flavoring it*FOREWARNING* This machine LOVES to jump around during the rice "pounding". I've learned that I need to secure it with some heavy cookbooks around it. I've also placed it in my sink and in a cast iron skillet. Just make sure it doesn't jump off your counter! This Mochi Machine is easy to use and straight forward. Do some research and you'll find some tips and tricks and some neat recipes out there to try.

I can make mochi every week! EZ nonstick tub makes EZ clean. Do not put it on the table unattended, the rotation moves the Mochi machine and falls off the table. It is so sturdy, after the fall, it is still working.

Pounding function did not work, returned it and seller said they checked it and nothing wrong so seller would not refund $25 return shipping fee. We have had mochi makers in the past and they are simple machines. You push the pound button, and the machine pounds the cooked glutinous rice (vibrates the bowl). We pushed the button, and nothing happened. Even invited a friend over that has almost an identical mochi machine and confirmed the pound button simply did not work.

This machine could make a perfect mochi (rice cake) without connecting a step-down transformer, simply because the product itself has been designed and assembled to the American voltage, which is 120 volts. The other similar products were designed to the Japanese market, which is 100 volts, then imported to the American market, therefore a not-cheap step-down transformer from 120 to 100 volts was required. Now you can connect the machine directly to the wall socket and make a mochi perfectly. It's a great mochi maker machine!!

I hesitated for a long time about buying this, I’m glad I did. Easy to use and super easy to clean. My mom had a Tiger one for yearsss and it’s still works until this day. I’m glad I finally went ahead and bought this. No regrets. $200+ dollars for years of the family enjoying rice cake, worth every penny.
