I bought unbleached so I can have the purest cotton in my pot when I wrap Thai dumplings and boil or steam them. It's a wonderful product that is being sold for a very fair price. THANK YOU FOR A HIGH QUALITY PRODUCT THAT I CAN SAFELY USE FOR COOKING!

This twine is in unbleached, meaning it has no chemicals that could be detrimental when used in cooking, which is a good thing, but the directions still suggest rinsing it before putting it in direct contact with food. The biggest problem for me is its yucky smell. Having never used unbleached twine before, that was a surprise. I’ll be storing it in a sealed plastic bag so as to not stink up other things in the drawer. Since it comes with two balls in a pack this should last me a good long time.

This Rainlily Wen Unbleached 100% Cotton Twine arrived just in time. When I recently purchased a 9.8 lb. pork butt on sale at the local grocery store, I did not notice the package said it was boneless. When my boyfriend removed it for salting and our homemade spice rub, we saw one side of the roast fell open, and the roast needed to be tied back together.I wanted to trust the Rainlily Wen's product information but needed to convince my boyfriend the twine was truly food safe. I researched online how to do a burn test and what to look for. A blogger reported: "Synthetic fabric balls up, curls, and melts as it burns; a polyester-cotton blend will generate ash with gritty bits, and the more polyester the chunkier the bits will be or even ball up when burning; rayon/viscose smells like burnt paper; and 100% cotton makes for a non-gritty ash and burns well." You can see from my photos that the twine did not ball up and, instead, left an ash of the fibers. The twine end actually kept burning. I ran tap water on it to put the red ember out. When we began to tie the roast, we realized we needed several strings to hold it together so it would smoke evenly. A couple of times, my boyfriend tied it so tightly when I pushed down to hold it that the string broke. The Amazon AI and a product photo shows the twine is 2.5mm thick. After salting and applying our spice rub, my boyfriend then laid the pork roast onto our rack and smoked it at 275F. for almost 8 hours. When it came time to remove and cover it in aluminum foil to finish cooking, we noticed that a couple of the strings broke before we wrapped it. We are not sure if we should have used a thicker twine, instead of this Rainlily Wen or if it was because our pork butt was too big, or the twine couldn't handle that temperature for such a long period of time. Perhaps, the next time we smoke some meat we will double this twine and tie it accordingly. I'm glad I ordered the double pack, offered as "Long" on the product page, for a total of 600'.Out of curiosity, I looked at some butcher's twine also offered on Amazon. Its product page shows it has 16 strands and can hold up to 50 lbs. of weight. Neither of these details are even mentioned on the Rainly Wen product page. I went back and counted 16 strands on Rainly Wen. We still recommend this product because it's food safe, 100% unbleached cotton, and pulled away from our smoked pork butt fairly easily.

This is a good, strong but thin 100% cotton kitchen twine. Because I couldn’t find the beginning of the ball on the inside, I had to use it from the outer ball. For this reason I keep it in a plastic sandwich bag to keep it from unwinding and getting all over. I used this twine to tie my prime rib roast yesterday, and it was ideal. I pull really hard on my butcher knots, and this twine holds up with no breakage. The twine pack is a great value for a kitchen staple.

Nice and thick, very soft. This twine is not as tightly woven unlike other brands, hope it doesn't affect its durability, my primary use is for roasting meats and linking sausages.
