Spool of the SS is incompatible with this typewriter ribbon. Suggest you find a typewriter/business machine shop that services older typewriters.

This ribbon installed and works well in a 1946 Underwood model S typewriter. The ink is not the darkest but overall works OK.

Works fantastically! The ink looks great on the page, but it isn't so wet that it smudges or soaks the paper. Any light spots in the photos I used are from the way I was typing, not the ink.I use an Underwood Noiseless Portable 77!

Working very well. We bought an old (1930s - early 40s) champion underwood typewriter for our daughter’s Xmas present, and this ribbon fits and works perfectly in it. Thanks.

This is a proper ribbon for the classic Underwood #5. Includes the little grommet-like gizmos near the ends of the ribbon, which trip the ribbon-reverse. So nice to return the mechanical interaction with the machine, which doesn't insert extra letters or spaces as the does evil computer keyboard.
