One challenge that you can face with chemistry is dealing with high heats and equipment. Normal rubber, PVC, Plastic will start to melt, burn or even catch fire and some of the higher temperatures that are needed for some actions, such as distillation. My original clamps that I had were PVC coated and during a distillation, they started to blacken and break down. The blue handle on the tension screw completely melted down and dropped on the glass and heating mantel. I was very lucky that the glass did not break, nor the plastic reach a combustion temp, as at the time there was boiling sulfuric acid in the flask. These clamps work very well. They clamp securely to the glass, and the silicon covers for the prongs are removable and the kit includes fiberglass covers. They worked perfectly for supporting the flask, so the mantel can be lowered safely. In addition, the tensioning screws are made of metal and have no risk of melting. Do note that they will get very hot, and if you need to adjust while hot, make sure you were wearing the proper gloves. These are well worth the price and I highly recommend them. Remember, they are metal, and will corrode with some chemicals.
