I have this staple remover at my desk and it works exactly as required, fitting under a staple and then slipping under the staple sufficiently far to hold the staple as it is removed, keeping things a bit tidier than might otherwise occur if the staple gets flung any which-way, kind of like what happens when you trim your fingernails and the remnants end up all over the table and floor and you step on them and curse like the dickens . . .But I digress. This works just fine, I use it whenever I want to save breaking fingernails by trying to remove pesky staples myself.NOTE: This product has multiple listings on Amazon (not unusual). This turns out to have the best combination of characteristics for removing regular 1/4 inch staples from limited number of sheets of paper (2 to 10 sheets) without tearing the paper or mutilating the paper. It is very quick and does a clean job. I just bought 3. I wrecked the first one by using it to remove heavy duty staples that were imbedded in thick stacks of paper. For that you need a different product, but this one is the best for the jobs described above.

THE best staple remover I have found is the one, like this one, from Staples (only place I found it) that has no split in the middle of the metal point. Sounds silly, maybe, but I have found THE best staple remover EVER from Staples.

It does a great job and you can't beat the price. If the manufacturer could modify the design of the handle for people with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or Arthritis, and make it in lighter colors, this could make it more perfect. Unlike the others, the removed staple easily releases from the tip, with the others, you have to work it a little bit with your fingers to release it.

I think I paid about $2.50 for this product thinking it might give me better leverage to remove larger staples from large documents. It immediately broke upon first use, splitting lengthwise along the seam and jamming the staple into my finger, ripping it open just below the fingernail. I honestly don't know why I expected any different. This did, however give me an opportunity to look at the magnet meant to collect the spent staples. You'd be hard pressed to collect a single staple with this tiny magnet as it is is located at the base of the wand, opposite the business end of this tool. Totally useless.
