About this item

  • UPGRADED CUTTERHEAD-The TJATSE 13" Helical Cutterhead is designed to replace the straight knife cutterhead on the DeWalt DW735 and DW735X Planers. Takes the performance of your Dewalt planer to the next level and cuts smoothly through your wood planing projects with ease.
  • CUT IMPROVEMENT-Helical cutter head features smaller which contact the wood and an angle shearing the fibers rather than tearing at them, the cutting performance is excellent and the slight bit of snipe that was getting with the straight knives is completely gone, the wood surface would be so much smoother.
  • AMAZING NOISE REDUCTION-The biggest difference of helical cutterhead is the noise reduction, the section cutting process makes the wood chips very fine, then the chip removal is easier. Energy saving and power saving, while reducing tear out more effectively than conventional straight-knife cutterheads.
  • LONG-TERM COST SAVING-56 Indexable carbide inserts included to produce a superior finish. Indexable carbide inserts are less prone to nicks and cracks over conventional HSS knives and 10 times longer than. If an insert dulls or gets nicked, simply rotate it to expose a new sharp edge or easily replaced, No need to take out all the blades, reduces shop down-time and cost saving.
  • BRAND QUALITY WARRANTY-Package included 1 x 13” helical cutterhead; 56 x carbide inserts; 56 x screws, 1x screw driver, one-year warranty which assures the unit is free from factory defects. The TJATSE Customer Service and Technical Support Teams are all days online for help.

Why choose helical cutter head for your Dewalt Planer ?

11

Higher technical level

Helical cutter heads are also called journal heads or indexable insert cutter heads. What this means on a technical level is that the cutter head employs a more or less foolproof system for cutter placement. When you change cutters, you are virtually guaranteed correct placement of the cutter in the head. Most cutters used for metal working lathes and milling machines employ this type of system, but to woodworkers it’s largely unknown. This is one of four benefits to woodworkers. Takes the performance of your DeWalt planer to the next level.

22

Long lasting carbide inserts

Made of carbide indexable inserts, higher hardness, not easy to chip and crack , and they are inexpensive, with much less painful to the wallet. With most inserts ranging from 3–6 cheap, making a “chipped tooth” much less painful to the wallet. You can also replace just one insert at any given time, so if you happen to chip one in the middle of a job, you can change that one insert and keep going.

11

True helical cut ,noise reduction

Helical heads have the inserts staggered around the circumference of the head. Thus, only one or two inserts, which are usually 1/2″ to 3/4″ in width, are in contact with the material at any time. Machine noise can be reduced by as much as 50 percent through the installation of a helical cutter head.

22

Smoother finishes

Probably most important advantage for woodworkers is the greatly reduced tear-out that these cutter heads produce. While most planers have no problem with straight grained wood, they generally do not produce good results with knots, burls, and figured woods. Helical heads typically produce much smoother finishes on these difficult woods.

I've used this for a few months now, and I can say that this was a great upgrade for my planer. Very smooth cuts, with no snipe - couldn't be happier with the performance. Also happy with the cost, relative to other brands.

Cutter head fit the planer as it should. Noise from planer was cut in half. Should allow for more planeing and less time changing knives and sharpening.

so about 40 of the screws/holes are not milled correctly and they still have cutting marks all over the head. the company does not sell replacemnt blades or screws and the bosh ones fit but the screws are to big. the initial install had me breaking ever other blade trying to understand whats going on.this thing (as is) is junk. you will have to spend hours finishing standing to take out all the burrs on the cutter head. then you will have to spend 200.oo in replacement screws and then 100.oo on more blades.i can not contact the seller . to late for the 30 day return ... AVOID AT ALL COST.

I have read a lot about these and this one was especially interesting, it has 56 individual cutters that are marks 1-4 so you can rotate them as they wear. They take a little while to install, I found that about 2 turn from snugging them down I would lift if up the cutting insert centering it on the countersunk screw head and lightly wiggling it as I tightened it down, it would position itself perfectly. Each cutter has a dot on it so it's easy to see that you are putting them in correctly (see pic). The sound level was a lot less than my original cutter and the finish was just as nice if not better. Worth every penny!

I am in shock as to how good the finish is coming off of this planer now. There is absolutely no need to sand anything. The Walnut and Maple boards appear to be polished. Maybe it will worsen with wear on the inserts. Along with the amazing dust collection this machine is now a superstar. I am super impressed!Edited on 3-7-24: Be very, very careful when rotating these inserts. Do not tighten any more than 60 inch pounds. The small screws will seize and you will have to break all of the inserts to remove them. Also use anti-seize lube on the screw threads and the countersink of the inserts.

I installed this in my Dewalt 735. I was expecting a smoother feel on the board like the side I jointed with just knives in it. It was slightly rough, however it did cut very well and the noise level is much less compared to the knives that were in before. Installation was a breeze. So that's why I'm only giving it 4 stars. If it made a smoother cut then it would be 5 stars.
