I followed the excellent installation instructions provided in the review by Craig Dry. I'll just add a few cautions:- Once you get a look inside the microwave, you may be shocked by how cheaply constructed it is. You may also see problems you didn't know about before.- Between the outer door "shell" that you remove and the black door "body" sits a heavy glass and plastic assembly which forms the door window. It is held in place by flimsy plastic tabs and some adhesive. On mine, ALL the bottom tabs were completely broken -- meaning the heavy glass wanted to fall out immediately. In case this is true with yours as well, use caution when removing the door shell. The glass inside may fall out unexpectedly and/or need to be supported from the bottom. (This also complicates reassembly.)- Yes, the replacement handle is plastic. But so is the original!- Yes, the color of the replacement handle isn't an exact, perfect match. But for such an inexpensive and useful repair, who cares? It's close enough! And no one but you will even know.- I was able to re-use the existing screws.- When installing the new handle, tighten the screws just enough so that the handle is sturdy and doesn't wiggle/wobble. Don't tighten further. In summary, this replacement part is an incredible value. A similar part elsewhere was 2-3x the price.

This handle fits perfectly and seems to be an exact copy of the OEM part. As other people have said it is lighter in color than the original, but I don't mind, I actually think it matches the handles on my other Kitchenaid appliances better. One thing that was difficult is, my door seems to be slightly different than other reviewers and was hard to figure out how the front of the door comes off, here’s how I did it:1. Remove the 3 screws on the side of the door on the handle end.2. There are 9 clips along the top, 9 clips along the bottom and 5 on the hinge end (see photos). I used a plastic automotive trim removal tool to carefully pry the bottom of the doorfront down to release the clips one at a time. I inserted small plastic wedges in the gap to hold the clips from snapping back into place, the wedges are for a tile leveling system but anything that will hold the gap would work. Then do the same on the top, you'll need 18 wedges or spacers. on the top I started from the hinge side on the top and worked toward the handle side. Be careful because when you release the last clip the door front will pop off and it's got the glass attached. You don’t need to release the clips on the hinge end, after the door pops off you can just slide the door toward the hinge end and release them all.3. Remove the screws from the old handle and install the new one.4. To reinstall the door front, close the metal sub-door assembly, then insert the clips on the hinge end and work your way toward the handle end pushing the front onto the sub-door until all the clip latch into place.5. Reinstall the 3 screws on the side of the door.6. Done

The product does not come with hardware so make sure to keep your old screws. On the side of your microwave door 3 screws must be removed that hold the front panel of the microwave in place in order to access the door handle screws. The color isn’t a perfect match however the microwave is from 2004 so a perfect match is not likely. A photo was taken with the original handle along with the one I installed to show the difference. The material is plastic, and although it doesn’t feel like a thick plastic I am pretty sure it will last as long as the last one (18 years) unless you plan on hanging on it 😄. The shipping was one day later then originally promised through prime.

This handle fit my KitchenAid KHMS155LSS-1 microwave oven perfectly. I did buy and use 2 #8 1/2" sheet metal screws since the old screws were of poor quality and began stripping as I removed them(I found one of them in a piece of broken plastic from the broken handle as I disassembled the door, and the other one was still in the unbroken end of the old handle). For my model microwave I did the following:1. Unplugged the power.2. Removed the grill that sits just over the top of the door.3. Did NOT remove the door.4. Placed thick towels on the cooktop below the microwave.5. Removed the 3 screws from the handle end of the door.6. Inserted a thin screwdriver under the thin outermost layer where I had just removed the 3 screws.7. Just a little movement with the screwdriver and the outermost layer of the door fell off. My wife caught it, so there was no damage between the towels and her watchful eye. The outer most layer is light, probably just a pound or two.8. I reclaimed the 2 handle screws as mentioned earlier, so I could match them at the hardware store.9. Attached the new handle to the outermost layer with 2 new screws.10. Reattached the outermost layer to the black guts of the door, which was still attached to the microwave. This was the only tricky part. I had to focus on the hinge end of the door first. Then the rest of the door snapped together.11. Reinserted the 3 screws which secured the outer layer to the guts of the door.12. Reattached the grill over the door. I probably could have replaced the handle without removing the grill, but I had already removed it. Having removed it earlier probably did give me a little more working room when I removed and reattached the outer layer of the door.

This replacement handle is not stainless steel, cheap plastic. This is the 3rd time replacing it. Thought a Kitchenaid part for a good microwave would be better than this. I seem to have no choice as I am unable to find a more durable part. It literally drops to pieces in time.
