  • Round Die: Suitable for re-threading existing threads in hard materials like metal, or making new threads in soft material like plastic. Used for threading mild steel, aluminum, stainless steel, cast iron, alloy steel and carbon steel. Fit for general purpose threading.
  • Die Stock: Can help to repair broken bolts and threads or just remove bolts and threaded rod when used with round dies. With adjustable screws, it can securely hold round dies and is easy to operate. 45# carbon steel tool has high hardness, high strength and resistance to deformation than ordinary A3 steel.
  • Easy to Use: The positioning groove of the die should be aligned with the fastening screw in the middle of the die wrench, and the screw should be inserted into the slot of the die and tightened. Necessary tools for hand tapping operation, can improve the efficiency of processing threads.
  • Tips: It needs to be reversed every 1/4~1/2 turn to facilitate the chip discharge from the chip hole. Suitable lubricating oil should be added to the cutting edge of the die when tapping threads. Good for maintenance and repair work.

Information

When tapping, appropriate lubricating oil is good for cutting or cooling, making the cutting easier and faster, improving the smoothness and dimensional accuracy, and helping to extend the service life.

The following lubricants are recommended: steel - cutting oil, machine oil; pig iron - dry oil; aluminum - kerosene; stainless steel - mixed kerosene; hard plastic - dry oil. Be sure to select the appropriate cutting oil for complex tapping process and apply anti-rust oil for maintenance after use.

Tips

The end of the bar should be chamfered 1*45 degree, and the chamfer is too large to cut in. The bar diameter should be smaller ( about 0.05mm-0.15mm) than the nominal diameter of the required thread. Excessive diameter can easily cause difficult cutting and lead to damage to the die teeth.

When tapping, add suitable lubricating oil to the cutting edge, and repeat the operation 3-4 times until the thread length is obtained. When using by hand, pay attention to even force and avoid blind force.

Made the really bad error of attempting to thread 1.50mm nuts to my imported right hand drive van from Japan’s 1.25mm studs thinking it was standard like all imported Japanese autos. Long story short I cross threaded the studs and went to 2 different auto repair shops to have it looked at and both down right refused because my van didn’t have a U.S. VIN and didn’t want to take on any liability(?!). A very good friend who is in one of my Facebook groups for these Japan autos recommended a die kit and after some research purchased this kit and it most likely saves me thousands in parts and labor! This kit definitely was a life and bank account saver and is basically free compared to paying a mechanic $150/hr to have the same thing done. I dodged a bullet and still learning as I go but I recommend this kit for anyone who has a similar situation like I did. 10/10 value!
