I got this hoping to paint it with my acrylic paints, but the whole thing is covered in very slick plastic that paint refuses to stick to very well... it'd probably be fine for coloring everything in with Sharpies or something, but that seems like it'd probably be the extent of your options, and I was hoping to be able to fill it in in a way that wouldn't leave uneven marker lines all over.It'd probably be a fun project for young kids learning geography or something, but if you want to actually create something out of it that's gonna look very nice in the end, this probably isn't it.

Our son had a lot of fun painting this. He wanted to use our acrylic paints rather than the markers that came with the set. The stand is very flimsy. This was a fun activity for our son. The globe held up well to the paint and the paint hasn't chipped or flecked off. Overall a little underwhelming, but not bad for the price point.
