This Valterra 200-C10 check valve is made of clear schedule 40 PVC (polyvinyl chloride) for strength and resistance to corrosion and mild chemicals. Its EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) seal resists degradation caused by water and oils, and the swing/spring construction of this valve makes it possible to install it in any position. It has a 1" slip connection at each end, which must be fastened with glue, a maximum pressure rating of 150 pounds per square inch (psi), and a spring tension of 1/2 lb. This check valve is suitable for use with landscape and irrigation, pool and spa, aquaculture, and general purpose applications.
Check valves have two ports and restrict the flow of fluids and other loose materials through a pipe or passageway to one direction. Flow enters through one port and exits through the other, closing when flow reverses or stops. Two common types of check valves are ball cone valves and swing check valves. A ball cone valve utilizes a spring-loaded ball seated against a cone-shaped interior surface to stop the flow of fluid in a forward direction, and a swing check valve has a movable disc on a hinge to block reverse flow. Check valves are rated by their cracking pressure (the minimum upstream pressure required for the valve to operate), and they are used in various water, gas, air, and steam lines.

This is a good valve when the spring is disconected, but the spring is hard to disconnect. I used 2 of these with the spring disconnected, and with reverse water pressure 3 psi, the valve does not leak at all. Also the valve's female couplings are marginally tight.

With my old valve, I had to constantly pull the whole sump unit out of the ground when I suspected a problem. Then I had to take the valve apart, only to find it clogged with small debris. This flapper type valve is amazing, it hasn’t clogged once in 4 months and we’ve had some hella rain. Plus it’s clear so you could see if there is a problem. 100% recommend this product .

If you’re looking at this for aquarium applications you should probably keep looking. They do what they’re intended to but the springs are too strong even for a 2500gl DC circulation pump; they will impede flow significantly. I had to pull mine and remove the springs which is very challenging to do as the unit doesn’t disassemble at all but it can be managed with very long nosed needle nose pliers, sweat and profanity.After removing the springs they’ve performed perfectly for going on 2 years.Bear in mind these can’t be disassembled for cleaning but so far I haven’t had an issue with that.Tips for using check valves in aquarium applications:- aquariums are dirty organic environments, bio film grows everywhere even in the dark. Combine check valves with siphon breaks. Either by itself will periodically fail due to fouling. Together they are almost bulletproof.- springs impede flow. Gravity/ reverse flow triggering is better. Springs also corrode over time. Biofilms cause imperfect sealing so combine with a siphon break

I added a sump pump to my home and needed a check valve. The inside diameter of the Valterra 200-C10 fits 1" PVC if you plan on gluing the assembly together. However, the outside diameter of the Valterra 200-C10 is the same as 1 1/4" PVC. So with a couple of flex couplings with band clamps, I was able to connect this check valve, and yet be able to easily remove it in the future if servicing/replacement would be needed. the nicest feature is that the check valve is clear, so you can visually inspect the check valve to see if it is working.

So far works well for basement sump pump. When you have a riser to up more than a few feet highly recommended .. see through is cool also as u can see the actual water there and how dirty

This works great and has for the last 6 months or so. Used for dishwasher discharge tube because my flapper has failed and is incorporated into the pump which is no longer available and supposedly hundreds of dollars.

I was hoping it would be a better version than the ones I got from China.But it seemed to be exactly same as the ones from China. The different is Logo, while the china ones have no logos.But all & all, it's perfect.Problem is... I got these 2pcs at $60 including shipping and I could get 10pcs from China at same price (free shipping).
