Sounds OK at low level, but at a reasonable level, sound is distorted and not loud enough for even a small bedroom. I bought this hoping to improve the output of the speaker in my ham transceiver. But the sound is the same at very low levels, and distorted at anything higher.Given the good reports of other people about this product, I can only assume I have a bad speaker that was never tested prior to shipping.

This speaker is so much better than the built in scanner speaker. Much better volume and it's super clear! People have complained about the sound quality but they are using it for music audio and of course it's bad for that!!! I installed this in my vehicle for my Whistler TRX-2 scanner and it's small size and great voice quality sound tuning, fit the bill incredibly well. This is a genuine value deal!

I read through the reviews and there is a ton of people talking about how this is low volume, sounds awful, etc. I had to laugh when one guy hooked up to his TV and said the sound quality was crappy.PEOPLE: This is a speaker designed for the amplified output of a two way radio, such as an amateur radio. You can't feed with a mic level signal from a TV or a computer sound output without low volume output. The frequency response is designed for a specific set of frequencies that are used in voice FM modulation.For what it is designed to do, it works BEAUTIFULLY. I hooked up to my Kenwood TM-D710GA and it sounds as good or better than the $70 Kenwood OEM speaker that looks and works just like this. In fact, if you silk screened "Kenwood" on the speaker you couldn't tell the difference between them. I cranked it up to full volume, and while it was way too loud for my comfort, it didn't distort or clip.Very happy with the quality and cost.

I bought this to add an external speaker to the ham radio in my Jeep. It was plug and play and the volume level is nice. It has a small size and was easily concealable in my Jeep. Not sure about the sound quality for music, but for a ham/GMRS/CB application it is perfect.***********************************************************************************************************************************************I rely on reviews when I make purchases so I put a lot of time into reviewing everything I buy on Amazon for personal and my business. It is a small speaker, so it has small speaker sound.My intended use was for a scanner next to my TV chair. This one is nice in that it is a very small unit. Unfortunately it sounds no better to me than the scanner's built in speaker. It can be plenty loud, just not really clear in the voice range. There are better external speaker options out there.

This extension speaker turned out to be far better than expected. It has a very good sound clarity, much better than expected. It's also much louder than the radio audio (four-times louder?). I'm using it with a CRT-Space 2m transceiver (which is also very good). This speaker is the perfect match.I guess this speaker would also work well on a base station setup with smaller radios like an FT817 etc.I recommend this product :-)

Expected quality for being so inexpensive. I ordered two; one worked fine and the other had a slight rattle which required some tinkering so fix. I have one connected to my Alinco DX-SR8 and the other to my Bearcat 980SSB, both base stations, and it's a definite improvement in sound. These speakers are not good for music reproduction, naturally, but at tuned well enough to bring out vocals. They also get pretty loud in my radio room. The small footprint lets them sit nicely on top of my radios and with a bit of blue painters tape rolled up on their bottom, they don't slide around. If you need a cheap speaker so you can hear better, I recommend these.
